A friend is getting her new pup in a few weeks. I’ve been very good and shown interest in all 5000000 photos of a mole rat lying in a heap of mole rats.
Today I tactfully said I didn’t need to see more than one video of starting to make swimming motion molerats. Apparently I am not therefore a dog lover, but just someone that has dogs and it’s a clear distinction. I worship my dogs which anyone that knows me would back up… do I really have to love everyone else’s too? 🤔

Sorry to laugh but that's hilarious. She sounds delightfully mad.

It's still a great source of upset to me that people view my dog like I view their children, no more than a passing interest, when I genuinely think she's the most amazing thing on the planet.

Is it her precious first born?

She’s like you! 😂. I tried to explain that I loved my children but wasn’t very interested in other peoples and it was the same with dogs. She didn’t get that as she doesn’t have children.
No she’s had loads of dogs, but rescues for many years and this is her puppy treat before she’s too old. I mean it is cute… but… !🤪

I'm with you. My hairdresser constantly sends me videos and pics of GSDs, dogs up for rescue, viral things that about 20 other people have already sent me. I love her to bits but I see enough of them, really, I do.
And all German Shepherd puppies are cute. Never seen an ugly one yet. No need to keep showing me 🤣

There was a fella a while back who kept sending me videos and podcasts thinking he was being 'helpful' and 'educational' and that he was telling me things I didn't know.
I was like yep, ta....been going to their seminars for years...wow, cheers, got pissed with that guy a few times...Oh him? Yes we WhatsApp each other stupid memes on a weekly basis, if I want his advice I'LL JUST ASK HIM DIRECTLY.

I actually do partly view mine as my babies/fur babies, but I like to think that I at least most of the time still do it in a way that keeps my feet on the ground. But perhaps I'm just fooling myself. Anyhow, judging by your wording it sounds as if she's showing you the "mole rats" in real life, but just in case she's posting them on Facebook or Instagram or something @Clodagh , any chance you can just scroll past them, and blame the algorithms for not having watched all of them?

Guessing that you now won't be asked to be the furbaby's godmother :)
Well oddly… and I’m thinking ‘why!?’ I am looking after it for a weekend when they go away after they’ve had it a week. The breeder has offered to keep it until they are back. Now I may be a dog owner, not lover, but I’d never let someone else look after a pup I’d only had a week. Although she can’t think I’m that bad to have booked me in.

I get shown the videos on her phone 😁

How unsettling for the new pup to be foisted onto someone else after just a week, even though, Clodagh, I’m sure that you are very capable.

Why on earth don’t they let it stay at the breeder til after the weekend away? Maybe the breeder will put foot down and not release puppy til they are back.

I must be some kind of sociopath but I really don’t find most puppies appealing. Once they are old enough to have that connection and spark behind their eyes, it’s totally different. But I’m definitely a dog person not a puppy person.

5/6 months old and I’m so interested but before that they are basically just potatoes with teeth.

I mean….puppies are cute and I was very nearly swayed by a friend posting a 7 month old springer in rescue yesterday, but I’m the same! I don’t really care about other people’s dogs unless they’re ‘my’ breed and even though, I mentally compare them-usually unfavourably-to mine. Mine are not superior (obviously they are, really!) but I just don’t care about other dogs.

Puppies are cute, look brilliant in some photos, I love a quick cuddle of someone else's, but I'm so glad that mine's growing up!

When I take mine to the riding school, I can hear all the kids "Mum, can I have one?"
mums "You do know they grow into big dogs, don't you?"
kids "Maybe not then..."
Me "Thank goodness they grow up!".

I'd consider myself a dog lover....borderline 'dog mum' at times, but I'd never do that to a pup. We had Fen a week later than we could have as we were at Dogfest for a weekend and didn't want to leave him with my mum when he'd just come home.

I got sent regular photos and videos by the breeder I got my dog from but after the initial squeal about cute puppies I wasn’t all that interested until they were a bit more interesting. It was only when I knew which one mine was that I started saving the photos but I didn’t spam other people with them. I think the absolute world of my dog and am convinced she is the best dog there ever was but I don’t expect others to think the same, though I would be very upset if anyone said anything negative about her. I take an interest in other peoples’ dogs and some I really love, some I think are obnoxious, most I could take or leave.

Everyone thinks that puppy intro grooms must be the best part of my job. The reality is that groomers hate grooming pups, they are a nightmare.

I do love puppies, but I far prefer kittens!
Yep, still trying to figure out how to brush my puppy without her chewing on my hands or the brush. At the moment, I'm working via distraction, holding a chew in front of her with one hand, while I brush her with the other. There's got to be an easier way!

I once got pulled into a meeting with HR for telling a colleague that her baby scan photo looked like lasagne, so I completely get it.
I also think bringing your baby in to meet the team should be a criminal offence.
See, I'm quite happy to meet someone's new baby at work (not like anything else interesting is going on...) and I feel it's fair reciprocation for all the horse, dog, puppy pictures my colleagues have to put up with.
People do seem to be very sensitive when it comes to their babies though. I'm quite happy to describe my puppy as a molerat, but apparently its not the done thing for babies. Luckily my friend knew me very well when I asked her when her endoparasite was due to become an exoparasite...

I work in a dog friendly environment so we all bring our dogs daily. People don't understand why I don't run out to meet the new ones!

I don't understand why you would? I like dogs... just my own dogs not somebody else's.

I do enjoy admiring dogs from a distance, and watching dogs work, i do become abit of a dog fan then pointing them out while on peg with my Husband.
