We've had what looks like a few centimetres in the last two hours. Hertford in Herts.
Feeling very bad that I turned my pony out in her muzzle
But pleased that I didn't choose to turn my horse who is on box rest out for his first night for five weeks.
I hope this is it for us now and it warms up and rains before morning.
Update from Mid-Kent. We now have over an inch, and rising fast. It is blizarding the really fine stuff that gets in your eyes. In the 10 mins we walked the dog (he was the one who wanted to come home!) the snow had completely covered our tracks on the drive. Don't think I will be going to work in the morning!
Just been to check the horses - is freezing but no snow yet. The forecast says the snow will arrive here during the next 12 hours and keep snowing pretty much all day!
just been outside to take pics of it...and OMG its come down so quickly and thick...its great!!! I'm loving every minute of it...woohoo...only thing is I'm walking to yard in am...not even attempting to take my car out in it...i live up a hill thats not treated...
its still throwing it down too...windy as ever too
Not so much as a flake . . . . . yet. . . . . . but the forecast that is sent to my pooter every day says 90% chance of snow overnight tonight and tomorrow and 95% chance on Saturday with the temperature "rising" to -2 . . . . .
reminds me of the winter of 1962/63 - started snowing on Boxing Day and didn't thaw until Easter . . . . . happy memories, I'd forgotten what grass looked like
I'm west of Southampton on the eastern edge of the New Forest
Just come home from a night at the pub - nothing at 7.30pm when I went in, Settling well and still coming down at 11.45 when I left!!!!!! WOOOHOOO!!! I LOVE SNOW!!!!!! Hope it settles proper I have tomorrow off so will take the dog up on the downs - snow is very special to me in boring old west sussex, where we normally get horrid horrid rain!!!
Well even if I wanted to try to get to work, it's not going to happen.
The A14 is 'hell' according to the radio man, it's just one way over the Orwell bridge because the ice is so bad we have lorries stuck on the top of it, currently trying to be extracted with tractors. The queue goes back about 10 miles and has been there for 11 hours, so lots of very cold people and abandoned cars.
There's also a jack-knifed lorry blocking my main route into the office, and two fallen trees blocking the only other route.
Just been to do the neds, in my trusty old battered rav-4! Lots of silly people about in very unpractical cars that have got themselves stuck.....even with the main roads gritted last night they are still very very bad, the smaller lanes are inpassable unless you have a decent vehicle it would seem!
Did take camera but it was still quite dark so hopefully winter wonderland pics will happen this afternoon....I'm not going to work today, will work from home, trains are up the spout here!
Solihull, West Midlands all clear this morning on main roads, side roads black ice and very cold, think its currently 1 degree at the moment.
The beauty of our livery yard is that you can do all your hay net packing, mucking out, washing down legs and horsewalker under one roof - I had years of an unsheltered cold stable on a cold yard, never again! Very lucky x
