Today went to West Wilts to do Novice had a lovely early start at 5am for 8am dressage. Got on horse at and he warmed up ok and did a sweet test not great but ok. Its always a bummer being first in but scored 39 so ok.
SJ looked big to me but horse popped round and was unlucky to just have one down. This is a massive improvement from being technically eliminated in May SJ!
Finally xc walked it was not big but had a few questions tho think about - first one was a hedge followed by a pimple. Did not fancy the pimple after a hedge as I have a long striding 17hh yak so looked at alternative and it looked fine. Second question was a bounce but the alternative was so horrid that I just had to hope Yak was being clever today as he is not the most nimble quick thinking creature. Yak flew round making nothing of it. Popped through the bounce easy as anything came through finish and found I had jumped alternative after hedge the wrong way. Doh!! Even worse I had only 8 time faults. But actually I am not too annoyed as he gave me a great ride and luckily he does not know his rider is pants! I will only be annoyed if I could have been placed.
Would definitely recommend WW as a good novice for green horses as nothing very scary and lots of alternatives at tricky fences.
I am now back at work and feel knackered! Roll on 5.30pm!!

Fantastic well done. You much rather have a TE and him go brillantly I'm sure. It must be a real confidence boost particularly the show jumping. Give yourself a big pat on the back for doing so well.

However next time when walking the course please note red on the right and white on the left!

Oh good, I'm glad i'm not the only numpty who does things like that

Glad you went well though. Our Boo runs tomorrow in the Pre Novice. Hope the track is a nice one, what's the water like?

Problem with being No2 round the whole course is that you cannot wander over and watch how the straight route rides. If I saw it had ridden really well I would have done it. Oh well I have given up trying to look after his record as it is pretty rubbish now and he is proving to be far more talented than I thought he was! With lazy horses its very difficult to know what they can and cannot do!

I think for PN they have 2 but not too hard. Novice was only trot through ideal for my water phobic horse!!

Mmm, Boo isn't the most brave where water is concerned, he kinda forgets what he's meant to be doing, as he's so busy looking at all the shadows, as at Winkleigh, when he stopped before jumping up the step out, he so wasn't paying attention

Last year the straight route did not ride well as horses could not see pimple soon enough - lots of problems early on apparently. IIRC Rachel took the alternative with Ferd as that was what was filtering back to the lorry park, so you made the right decision, just in the wrong direction.

I am so pleased you told me that. I just felt walking it that my horse was a bit wobbly sometimes so not guaranteed to be on a straight line and that if jumps in bold over what apprears to be an inviting brush that he would then not be switched on for it.

Disappointing rider error, but how bloody brilliant do you feel now youve completed two novices and the Yak is turning into a little super star.
Congratulations

Very pleased for you.

I think that was an easy mistake to make and he doesn't know you were elimintade so it doesn't matter. He's not a yak tho' he's a clever pony. Sarah did a nice (for her) test and was well pleased. Was less impressed after the walked the XC, thought it was very beefy and technical. Shall reserve judgment till I've had a look tomorrow. Packed today though wasn't it!

I'm there on Sunday doing novice - Bounce...hmmm...that sounds a little scary - my mare not done many bounces, definitely not xc and isn't the sharpest with the front end...alternative it might be! Hedge to pimple should be ok for me though as she's very good on a line and pretty clever at sorting it!

Am going to walk it tomorrow anyway so will make decisions then!

The alternative is seriously horrible and the bounce jumped great - I have a 17hh horse who cannot shorten for toffee but it is a really kind one. Only about 3' and the first bit is a roll top followed by very kind sloping rails.

To be honest my mare is only 15hh so she'll probably chip a stride anyway! What is the alternative?

I'll just aim and kick and hang on!!!!

WELL DONE!!!!!!! So you jumped a fence backwards - you still jumped it! It isn't as though you lost tons of prize money because of it and as you said, R doesn't know that anything was amiss - you should be well chuffed!

Its nice to be able to get to the xc without disgracing myself Sj! Saw Floyd mentioned several times in H&H at Dorset!!

Yep was in results section as yak got a mention!
Do not think today counts. All I want is 4 clear xc to go and do 2DE at Chepstow in May!

Oh yes please! Will probably make me worry more but might as well have a look!!!!! Be nice to see it anyway to see you going so well!!!

Why was the alternative so horrible?!

Oh yeah - I was giving you a virtual clear

Yak is officially a proper horse - not as good as the sea cow though. The Sea cow is no longer grade 4!!
