Was just posting on another thread and was shocked at my baby boys transformation over the years from fugly to 'andsome

This was Ben as a baby, about seven months old:

I think he's rising two here, it was his first ever bath and I was still very much despairing at his fugliness:

He was then backed and ridden on at three and just under a year later went to Royal Cornwall show, he was there for a day and a half, and got a tiny bit tucked up about an hour before his class and this photo was taken. Just goes to show what time, work and decent feeding can do...

My baby boy at four years old!

I simply can't believe he will be five this year, or that I've had him for four years and three months already! He really has been the best tonic for me after losing ebony when he was three, and he never fails to make me proud... He is a proper mummy's boy :D

Aww fanks! 3beasties, he most certainly was fugly his head took a lot of growing into!

Adopter, I find it fascinating how much he has changed, and not just in terms of shape and size, in his attitude, his confidence, the way his baby coat has changed to an adult coat over the years, I find every bit of his development really interesting to watch :)

He is a stunning lad:) I don't think he was ugly as a foal but there are moments when you go mmmm? My youngster looked bloody awful as a yearling. He is starting to look better at rising 3.

Thank you for your lovely comments, yes through the growing phase there certainly were some 'urgh' moments! He's having the time of his life at the moment, he's on holiday :) hasn't really been worked in three months, I was going to start this month but yo broke her arm so can't clip him, which is ok because with the weather there simply hasn't been a day I could ride, apart from when I was in Milan! I'm really looking forward to this year, the focus is some mini jumping, some local ridden shows, preparing him for ridden class back at royal Cornwall next year, I did want to do it this year but I think with the way I like to prepare that's just too much pressure on us both. Hopefully the weather will break for a bit and I can get back on, all my tack is cleaned and ready :(

Here are a couple of my favourite pics for those of you who like his face xx

Thank you Vicky I am, incredibly pleased and proud. I was kind of window shopping when I met him, with some distant and vague idea that I should get a baby to take over when ebs started to retire, but nothing serious at that time. It was two weeks after he was born and my then oh and I went to his friends for a BBQ, his breeder took me to the field and there he was, she then said those fatal words 'he's for sale you know?' The rest is pretty much history. My ex bought him for me as an apology for some of his awful behavior. I was with him for the best part of six years he was a violent, lying serial cheater and I always say he's the only good thing to come from being with my ex! So when he was weaned he was mine :D :D

Then, when I lost my soul mate and partner of 11 years ebony, it was harrowing. I watched her deteriorate over six weeks with nothing the vets or I could do. I was so scared I'd turn my back on him and resent him for being here when she wasn't. Up until the day she died (two weeks after he turned two) I liked him, cared for him, but hadn't bonded with him. She was PTS, I sat with her and then I walked to the stables and he was a mess, it was like a lightening bolt. So yes, I'm so incredibly proud of him, he is very special to me. :)

I am not normally a fan of coloured horses but he is gorgeous and it wouldnt matter what colour he was he would still be a lovely horse

Thank you :D . I agree, coloureds aren't really my thing either, I like my bays and blacks, but the day I saw him, bless, he was two weeks old, we walked up to see him with the owners two kids, they were climbing over the gate and he was so bold, fearless and gentle... His character shone through and he could have been pink and green for all I cared :D. He's also one hell of a fearless jumper, although we've not done much because of his age, he has the perfect stride in canter, and never ever backs off, or tanks, he's so fluid and smooth, he used to play jumping over a fallen branch in his field, just to amuse himself.... I can't wait to do some proper jumping with him this year :)
