Hi

This is pretty gross.

My mare has always had fairly loose droppings. THey are what I would call "normal" in her stable and field, but when we are out hacking or jumping, doing something she finds exciting, they come loose, to the point where you can get squirted if you stand behind!

But I have noticed a change this past week.

I moved her to a new yard, so at first thought that maybe it was the stress and excitement of being somewhere new. SHe is also on much better grazing now and is out 24/7.

Her poo is now a light mustard kind of colour all the time, and is runnier than it used to be.

Should I be worried - I know that runny poo on better grazing can be an early indicator of laminitis and stuff. The grazing isn't what I'd call lush. It's long (kind of knee length) stalky grass.

Thanks

It may be that she's not used to the grass there e.g it may be a little sour or taste different becuase of the soil. Or it could be she is still a little nervous in her new place and a little strung up if u know what i mean. i think its normal behaviour but if it still happening after about a week i would get somebody to check just to be on the safe side but im sure itl go back to normal. x

My boy gets loose droppings and it clearly irritates him, swishing tail, rubbing said tail to the point of not having any tail left and looking in ectasy when I rub his bottom (and you thought you were being gross

. ).
His seems to be caused by wet grass. Today I asked for him to be left in to try and dry his insides up and I have in the past given him a fairly dry feed of mostly chaff when he comes in to dry him up and that seemed to work too.
Yours is probably worse due to the move and the change of grass as you said so unless it doesn't come back to "normal" within the next week I wouldn't worry too much.
Rich coming from a worry pot who would probably call the vet after three days

it could be the change of the grass just keep on eye on her and maybe try a tube of pre/pro boitiocs to see if that helps. Is she wormed up 2 date?
