I got my mare 2 years ago and she's a brilliant horse, just a very sensitive and sceptical girl, we think she wasn't treated the best in her post-9 year old life as a hireling then broodmare. When i bought her I thought she had a thoropin - I absolutely don't mind cosmetic lumps and bumps and I liked her too much to pass on her!
Gaining a bit more knowledge from others we've worked out that it's above the hock too much and is like a hard swelling so it's no thoropin /wind gall. The vet isn't concerned with it as she's not lame.

So I'm taking it as a healed bowed tendon injury (just in a strange place on the upper hind above the hock!) that healed and makes her feel uncomfortable sometimes. I have a new brilliant farrier who said that she feels more stiff on the old injury side (has corrective trimming anyway) and in the past she's always gone a little stiff when the spring grass arrives!

Would I be right in thinking some physio sessions and a good joint supplement would be good to her? She lives out and is on alfalfa cubes with an Equimins balancer with linseed Thank you :)

It sounds like she has a thickened Achilles tendon. Since it is a tendon, not a joint, it is unlikely that a supplement for joints (that is not proven to have any effect anyway) will do anything other than empty your wallet. The physio might help, but if it is an old injury any improvement is likely to be slight.

I'd go for boswellia. It will help with the stiffness, and may slow progression of any arthritis. It's a natural anti-inflammatory painkiller.
