Tonight I hot clothed my neds, which I haven't done for about 3 years, and boy I forgot how gleaming it makes them!

What old forgotten tricks do you still swear by ?

Hay wisps.

*Blankets under stable rugs.

*Bandage!

Feed straights.

Wear a riding hat with the ribbons sewn down.

Practically everything because I am still stuck in the 70's.

* Well, I would if I needed to.

Ooh, I do proper blankets under stable rugs too!

I also change t/os to stable rugs overnight which fast seems to be coming a thing of the past!

Black is relatively modern - now if you said "Havana, boring Havana!!!!" I would agree that is old fashioned :D

ahah! its more the fact every horse i see has some sort of *bling*: browband, headcollar, saddle cloth, saddle! hat, jumpers, brushes, rugs.......ughhhh i am the only boring person in this world? black with nothing else seems VERY old now!

*bling* was made to be worn round the neck and wrist and on the ears (human ears)....that is where it should stay!

Plait with thread rather than horrible bands!

Use the buffer thing (cant remember its proper name) to help with tense muscles

Pull my horse rather than cut its mane

Sure theres loads, but thats all I can think of at the mo lol

Spit on my saddle soap so it never gets too wet! I know it's revolting and don't do it in public but boy does it work! Spit and polish anyone? :)

Don't despair - I have no bling and Havana tack :p

Stupid question but is strapping and thatching the same thing by a different name or two totally different things?
I know what strapping is but I don't think I've heard of thatching before :o

Is thatching when you put dry straw under a rug to dry/cool off a sweaty horse? If so my grandad showed me how to do it ;) now I use a thermatex!

I always wrap my lead-ropes up, thatch if and when i have straw available, feed barley straights, bunch the mane over to the right side :)

Ooooh, Yes, wrap leadropes too!

And do 'proper' quarter markings, with a comb and hair spray, as opposed to a sheet and brush!

Well we always thatched a wet horse when I was younger, Now with the two younger who live out naked I don't have to worry, except when they were really wet one time as do not have rugs for them to thatch under I rubbed them with towels.
I was always taught if they are warm behind ears they will be fine, anyone else heard this?
