I have a woolen blanket rug for my TB a really heavy one thats nice and warm. Am after one for my cob but can't find any - they tend to be made of fleece or waffled.
Can you still buy proper old fashioned style WOOL blankets?!

I think charity shops and car boot sales would be the best place to look! I saw a stand with a few at a car boot sale a few weeks ago, kept eyeing up a hot pink one and then kicked myself when it got sold.....for only £4   I was there to sell, not buy so was on my best behaviour :p :D

Infact i think i could have a go at making one, a large blanket, some webbing straps and buckles..........Hmmmmmmm

*plans to get sewing machine out*** :)

They are really easy to make. I bought a pure wool double bed blanket from Oxfam for £3, then bought binding, webbing and surcingle and chest buckles from a specialist supplier (don't know if they still trade but bound to be others if you look in the small ads in horsey mags) and extra strong thread. I used an existing not very deep rug as a pattern and just cut around it. I have a few dressmaking skills so put darts in the bum to shape it a bit, and it all turned out lovely for just a few pounds. Took me about 5 evenings work.

For an acutal blanket then army surplas (can get brand new ones) or shires do a proper witney blanket too.
For a wool rug then shires again, also if you search for melton wool rug then there are quite a few places that sell them/make them to order. I managed to get a lovely wool day rug for my girl from Olympia last year alongside a row of cheap stable rugs, god knows what make, it was about £40 so not a silly price at all, and it is ace! You can sometimes find them in the unlikliest places!
