Maybe the death of your OH has effected the dogs, my OH also died at home, they stayed upstairs while the paramedics were there but after the cpr stopped and he died they came downstairs. The husky walked up to him, licked his hand them came to me & licked my cheek, they both then lay down either side of his body & stayed until I called them away & left the house. So they know he is dead & seem to be doing ok, I let them lie next to him for quite a long time as I felt that they needed to mourn him, do your dogs know he is dead? So sorry you are going though this extra stress
Yes they saw him, tried to lick him etc so they knew something was very wrong

Things have actually calmed down which is a relief - I’m trying to do bits of training with them separately which helps and the older one is having pardale and gabapentin now and I suspect some of his grumpiness was due to pain. I’m going to have to do some separation training with the puppy as he howls when I go into the garden with the older one - he’s fine if they’re left in the house together. I do feel stretched very thin though 😕

At one time I was doing three dogs completely separately due to personality clashes and the young dog injuring herself from hooning around. It was hard but it became normal and in the long run it's good for dogs to be able to spend time on their own without the crutch of another dog. They all mithered if they could see one going out without the other but I tried to do things like give one a handful of food to keep them busy while taking the other out etc, I had parts of my gaff set up like an airlock so they wouldn't be passing each power

ETA very sorry for your loss, I was away when you first posted this and missed it.

I missed this thread originally but wanted to say how sorry I am for your loss. The whole experience must have been so traumatic, and I'm not surprised that you are feeling stretched. It sounds that things on the dog front have already improved, so don't put too much pressure on yourself to do even more. Sometimes we can settle for "good enough" and tackle an issue another day. Take care.
