Evening everyone, hope you all enjoyed the excitement this afternoon! I was wondering if anyone had any news on the XC fallers today? There seemed to be quite a few long course holds and the BBC coverage was minimal. I would have thought they would have been able to find out something to tell us, as I'm sure at least some of the horses/riders who fell but weren't shown were quickly back on their feet. I'd especially like to know how Sam is.
Any theories as to why there were a relatively high number of fallers, especially given that there weren't that many other problems?

I was watching it live on the red button and I think all horse and riders were ok in the end.
I think the japanese mare that fell is ok, she was up on her feet but did look a little lame and they stopped the course so the vets could fully check her out, they never updated with any more info though...
I felt especially sorry for Clayton Fredericks when his horse slipped, looked pretty nasty but both got up ok, just unlucky I guess. Quite a few horses had some minor slips and there did seem to be a fair few fallers but equally there were some lovely rounds - big congrats to team GB, fingers crossed for SJ now! :D

According to Sam Clark on twitter - a message from HB's husband says that she's stable and staying in over night for observation :)

Thank you for the updates. Hopefully there will be some more info from the commentary team tomorrow, but if anyone finds out anything else, let us know!

Hawley is in a stable condition in hospital
Camilla and Jiff apparently OK, think the ambulances and screens were just precautionary
No news on Latina but to me looked like it might have done a tendon

Everyone else is fine, but I can imagine a few might not pass or be presented tomorrow..

Sam Griffiths slipped on the flat, just before the flower box/garden fences.

There was a very scary moment, the crossing point stewards chatting away, course covered in people, suddenly horse, riderless gallopping flat out at them. I spotted it through the crowds and did my best PC steward impression, yelling HORSE, MOVE, MOVE, people looked and scattered and just missed being mowed down. Sam followed on foot shorthly after looking rather cross.

I didn't see any fallers but it seemed that in some cases there were logistical problems getting horses off the course and it had to be done on a horse ambulance because the terrain meant it wasn't easy to lead them away. In some places there was no way other than leading a horse through the crowds which wasn't an option.

Well done there.:)

Alas, Amistad, Michele's horse, is not okay. :( Despite finishing apparently fine, it was determined shortly after that he sustained a career ending tendon tear. Obviously he's been withdrawn and will be retired permanently. Gutting for Michele as she's had the ride on the horse since he was 3 and he's been an amazing partner for her. Despite being older than me (yes, really) this is her first Olympics and only one of the incredible adventures she's had with this horse.

I guess she's taking him home and that's the main thing. Just not Canada's day. I feel really sad for them as a Team, not only for today but for what this means for future opportunities. You're very spoiled here - there is always the chance for a "next" Badminton or Burghley or Pau - but for many people competing today this would have been one of only a handful of opportunities they will get to ride at this level and rub shoulders with the giants of the sport.

Anyway, everything crossed for Jessie and Tucker. They were pure class today, even Scotty was impressed. :)

Oh no :( Been a bad bad day all round for Canada :(

Glad she can take the horse home though for a happy retirement

There was huge sympathy amongst the crowd for the canadians yesterday. I did hear that a few are staying in the UK for a while to event so hope they will now get the chance to experience the british circuit.
Gutting for Michele though.

I'm pretty sure it was Rebecca who planned to stay on so hopefully nothing has changed that.

Hawley and Jessie have done short stints here before but I'd be surprised if either was in a position to relocate long term.
