Well I *think* the lights were turned on (on a very sad tree, sat at an angle and surrounded by high wire fencing ) in our town tonight. But I *think* they forgot to mention that they were then going to attempt to recreate the shelling of Beirut from the castle walls right behind our house

OMG. I was going to call the police it was that bad and that loud, our walls were shaking - and it went on for 40 minutes - like something you watch on Sky News.

There are horses very near there, but there must be HUNDREDS of terrified pets too - Percy pup was fine, but my poor terrier. How on earth the horses coped, I don't know. I have never heard fireworks so loud before.

Just as I'm reading your post we have fireworks going off here again tonight it seems to go on from October through to January and my dog goes completley mad has even tried to throw herself through our patio doors before now and has to be sedated over the worst of it. I feel so sorry for the wildlife, pets and horses who get terrified by al this noise. It just seems never ending :(

I just can't understand why they were so loud - I suppose that must be the decibel limit. I mean, hubs and I were scared, the poor terrier !

I know whatever happened to catherine wheels and sparklers it has to sound like world war threes going off and almost a competition for who has the loudest fireworks !

BOOOOOOOOOOOOM fooking firework just sent the dogs into a frenzy. They are OK if ESS is in a different room, but together, they go nuts, then the ESS won't shutup!

I'm going to have a word with the council on monday to ask about it; they obviously gave a licence for it, I'm intrigued to know how that level of noise can be allowed.

Sorry if this sounds rude but how much involvement do you have with your local community? Surely someone must have known what was gona happen?

That sounds horrendous. We have someone in a row of houses near the yard that 3 times in the last week has set off 1-2 fireworks the minute the yard gets busy of a late afternoon/evening/at dusk, once horses and people are round. They're damp squibs and don't go bang so more like just a pink whoosh and a flare that goes up but they come from that direction, are large enough to reach across a small paddock and fizzle out up above the yard...it can't be anything but deliberate unless it's for some other bizarre reason I can't think of...

well i read the local paper religiously every week, and all the local glossy leaflets. I am going to ask where it was advertised - tbh, when we drove past the switch-on ceremony, there were about 30 shoppers standing around in quite a big town.

I think my issue is not so much that it happened, but how LOUD it was.

Has anyone from the yard gone up to investigate? maybe knock on doors to see if there is an issue?

Its never going to be easy. I think we can all agree that fireworks are just a pain in the arss regardless of what tim eof the year they go off

Try and investigate, see whats about and hopefully share any news with us good or bad. Good luck :)

I live in Bath and fireworks seem to be going off all the time here there and everywhere for who knows what reason. Loads of horses are kept on the outskirts. In a small city, they are not far away from town. I can hack there in 20 mins.

My animals don't seem bothered. I once kept a vigil in the field on bonfire night with the horses in their field and they didn't give two monkeys. Two were sleeping, the others didn't even come up for air from eating the grass. So i just enjoyed the view. The dog next door barks like mad but our cat couldn't give a monkeys neither. I think she purrs too loudly to hear anything else but herself.

Be interesting to see if the petition on banning for public use comes into force. I signed it and have complained to the council but nothing happened as yet. I even wrote to our MP about those blasted Chinese lanterns and got in the paper and I haven't any in the fields this year.

You have to get proactive about these things. Complaining on here won't do anything. Write to your MP, councillors, local press and cause a scene.

I love doing something about things I hate. Dog poo bags in trees, yes thanks to me, it got cleared up! I got salt bins back on the ends of roads! i have a few other things I have complained about. I may be the village upstart, but I get things done!

Don't complain... DO!
