This is your problem - a beautiful country to live in but one where horsemeat has a ready and comparatively ( with U.K.) high cost market. My advice to you would be to find out what the meat value is and then never advertise a price lower - that should ensure your pets will continue being just that.

Believe me she is up for sale for much more than meat value as she is pregnant too. The buyer was thinking ahead as with the new Italian laws many horse owners are signing the "NO Butcher" to stop the terrible meat market. This means that they will be cremated at a small cost and you won't get the meat value. :eek:
 
I live in Italy and I am a member of the Breeders Ass. here, they offer an insurance to all members at €10 for the yearly subscription and €2.50 per horse to insure. They will cover all costs of the collection and cremation of the animal. This covers cows, horses and donkeys.
It is about the only good thing in this country as far as animals are concerned.

Ive got the same insurance, it makes for a huge saving (in the event...!)
