I work rode for a local race yard for a couple months when I was made redundant last summer. I fell really hard for a grumpy 5 year old hurdler. He's bay which I don't normally go for, a gelding, again normally prefer mares. He's cranky and over 16hh. At 5ft2 i'm a confirmed pony squasher.

When I got my full time job, I broke myself over not seeing him everyday. I cried so hard I was sick. Other people's horses never get to me like that. He just tries so hard and wants a mummy so badly.

Anyway having been told that with his breeding and the promise he shows in training i'd have a very long wait till he retired off the track. This year he has not lived up to the promise at all. I have visited him regularly and kept in touch with the yard. Last night my buglet came home to live with my others.

We had a nice little ride this afternoon and he seems to slowly be settling despite having been bred at and never left his trainers yard for more than a day at a time. It only sank in as I rode him this afternoon. I'm so happy. Pointless just wanted to share.

I haven't managed to get any pics yet partly due to lack of ability and partly due to lack of matchy matchy when I rode him! Anyone clever who finds a pic of foxinthecots online could post it maybe. I'll overload u with pics once I take some and work out how to post them, if I can get his ears forward!

Ahh that's lovely!!
That's the story I wanted!! I fell in love with a race horse I won a charity race on, unfortunately he broke his leg 2 races later. Absolutely gutted.

Your so so so lucky I hope u have many happy years together!!

Yes that's my buglet. Quite often the horse behind lol hence how come I have him! Massive kudos and gratitude to his old owner/trainer for spotting his lack of aptitude and letting me have him where many would have kept trying till he was broken or miserable based on breeding and how good he looked on the gallops. A true horse-man.
