This is disgusting but thank you Piebald sparkle for posting. I have a very nervous polish mare with scars on her chest and shoulders that appear to come from a bad fitting harness and always wondered what could have happened to make her so scared of life. Now i have a good idea and can keep trying to help her.

Apparently under communism a lot of horse skills were lost because of increased mechanisation. So now that there economy there is in trouble (fall of communism apparently means no parts/money for tractors...) and people are turning to horses again there is less knowledge to pass down and even getting proper saddlery is difficult. You may remember the shocking bits appeal to get ones designed for horses, rather than strips of wire...
Having said all that nothing excuses carrying on with this when they must have been able to see how badly it was going.
