There was one rumble of thunder yesterday afternoon, and a short spell of rain. Temperature was a very comfortable 22°C in the garden. Around 25°C in my office this morning, with the windows open front and back, but now 60% humidity and overcast.

School holidays start next week, unfortunately in my local area it is usually a given that fires will be deliberately started.
The nature reserve near me has been set alight the last three summer holidays, and police and fire service well aware of the usual suspects

Woke up at 5am to the room selling strongly of smoke.

Checked the house and surrounding fields. The entire valley below us is shrouded in smoke.

Unfortunately looks like a fire on the moors above a local reservoir caused by a disposable barbecue.
?
Oh no. That's a disgrace. How sad for all the wildlife and the eco system. I don't mind anyone having fun but how many seconds does it take to make sure a disposable bbq is completely dead?

A friend was telling us last night about a scary fire across the road from her. She smelled smoke and heard a commotion so went out and found the opposite house had it's fence on fire. Was about to go across with water when someone started shouting to keep away because it was a gas main on fire. It took an hour for anyone from the Gas Board to come and deal with it. Could have been catastrophic.

That's very bad. If it was uncontrolled then they should have responded a lot quicker. Response time should be within 1 hour and an escape has to be capped off and made safe within 12 hours I think it is. I know this because my partner used to work for emergency gas escape at BGWM control room, he was the shift supervisor.
