So a few of you prob remember Casper, who I was going to buy, school on and sell. However, I didn't get on with him as well as I thought I might so I didn't buy him. He is at my yard and his owner really does want to sell him before winter sets in as she will then only be able to ride at the weekend and he does need to be ridden more than that.

Stats:

*ID
*10 years old
*16.3hh
*Gorgeous
*EASY to do, really lovely, lots of character but not at all bolshy or naughty
Needs sedating for clipping (although I am going to clip him with my quiet clippers and I reckon he will be fine)
* Ridden in a loose ring french link
*Brill hack, fun rides, hunts etc
*Although he won a lot of dressage with his old owner (bought in July 06) he is rather green in the school - he gets tense and rushes, but if you are a quiet and considerate rider he works nicely
*Jumps well, but again, green over SJ courses (His owner NEVER schools or SJs)

The major factor is that he really is a one rider horse - he is amazing and easy to ride for his owner, hacks out on the buckle and never does anything wrong. New riders feel they have to take a hold of him and if you do that he will bowl on (in school or hacking). He is quirky, but not at all nasty...its hard to explain, but for the right rider he is absolutely 100% brilliant.

He has lost weight and put on a lot of muscle since then...

as a green 10yo i wouldn't want to pay more than £3500, he looks like a fab type though, lovely bone and look about him, sounds like he'd be a super hunter!

Oh, he is so lovely. I wish I had been able to ride him better, he is just beautiful.

I actually think the 'how much' depends on the kind of home he is pitched at... I wonder whether he would be worth more advertised as a hunter rather than a RC type horse?

Well, I'm not an experienced horse person at all but I did spend over a year looking for mine not so long ago. I think he'll probably be in the region of £5000-£5500. Mine was £4000 and although I think I paid too much that was the kind of prices they were at the time. Must admit I've liked the look of casper since you first had him.

Blackhawk and Lily - thank you, you are spot on IMHO - his owner will accept £3000 ASAP but he will be advertised for £4k we reckon

You and me both lzt - I absolutely adore him as you know, we just do not gel at ALL! Fact is the owner was going to hold off advertising, Boss was going to take him out hunting and then he would have been advertised - but it looks unlikely we will be hunting any time soon, so therein lies the dilemma!

May I ask you - if you saw him advertised at £4k would you think there was something wrong with him? He is a difficult one as you cannot ride him well until you know him, but he is absolutely lovely!

If I saw him at £5.5k I'd think he was over priced (unless there's more to him, ie hunter?), but then my friend's novice eventer is priced at that and many people on here said she's very underpriced. It's hard to strike a balance!

Aww he's lovely - he's the type of horse I'd want but would expect to be able to afford.

I think you should get 4k for him, so maybe be cheeky and ask 5k??

How big is he?? He looks like he'd be fab for hunting in our country!

He is just such a gorgeous boy

Does he just not gel with some people very well? Is he the same with men and women?

He was bought off a man funnily enough - the pics of him on the fun ride, he is being ridden by his owner, who is small and light and NEVER has a prob with him. The main thing is people think he is strong (he has NEVER tanked off with anyone, but he will bowl on) but they forget he is in a loose ring french link! He is NOT strong for his owner at all, we canter side by side at a collected canter and she doesn't have to touch his mouth, we go galloping and ditto, she has a light contact. He covers a lot of ground and therefore people think they are going fast and try to grab hold of him, which isn't necessary - arghhh we just want a brilliant home for him!

I'm not really sure I'd think there was something wrong - he looks like a quality horse and pics make all the difference. As I've said, because he does look that good I think even people who could be slightly sceptical at the price if it is low would at least come try him out. I still look at horsemart now and again but prices do not seem as consistant as they did 6 months ago. I don't know what the reasons are for him not doing dressage since but if it was present owner not interested I'd put something along these lines in the advert and mention past dressage scores if he did well.

I think he is priced right - he is not an easy ride but I feel that a couple of weeks work and he could be uber smart.

If I had 3k to spare I'd snatch him up, by the sounds of it with a bit of work he'd be a sweetheart. Always liked him ever since you posted the fist pictures.
Prob advertise at 4.5K

To be honest, if I saw him advertised at over 4K, I would think he is over priced. For what is in all respect a happy hacker.

He looks a really lovely sought but it often comes down to the black and white when advertising. It is so hard to make people see "potential" or just how great a horse is, from a picture. At the end of it, people will look at his age, then his lack of schooling, etc and then possibly be put off. I personally wouldn't pay £4k for a hacker but many, who want a solid friend for life and are willing to pay extra for "looks" (as he is very handsome

) will do.

Not a lot of help I know but perhaps, if you are seriously interested in the right home, putting "£xxxx but are willing to negotiate for the right home"

Aw he sounds like my IDxTB mare no idea how old she is we bought her as an 8 year old expecting her to be olderas off of a dealer, bought her as we felt sorry for her - her feet were appalling but my super farrier has now sorted it out....my OH rode her first and as he didnt know her took a hold of her and you could see the panic in her eyes she went off with him but I rode her next day fine in fact I ride her on the buckle and she can be ridden across any open space on the buckle and wont go unless asked is a lovely mare good to handle but doesnt like being clipped but that could be down to the dealer we bought her off of had cut her soo many times when clipping her I dont think I would like to be clipped anymore..sorry gone off on a tangent here we paid £1250 for her not saying your boy is only worth that but when they are a one person horse it can be harder for people to gel and can put people off.

I am guessing foot and mouth has put the skids on the hunt being interested for the moment as all their horses are in and doing nothing. Bloomin FMD.

Weeze, knowing how much trouble I had finding a good well bred ID myself, if someone pays £3,000 for caspar they have a total bargain!

He is a lovely horse and it was such a shame that you two didnt click, hope he finds a really nice home with someone who understands his quirks!

*Waddles off to plead mummy*

Thought - Becuase he isn't every bodies ride, would the owner let him go on trail so he didn't end up unsuitable and flogged off

One the best mares I know is up for sale for just £4k (Will accept £3.5/3k to right home) Because shes 9 years old and hasn't been out much either. I think she should accept £3000, wouldn't put the asking price over £4000.
