So Conn is (possibly was) all better from abscess and swollen leg and back in canter work so was allowed out today. All went really well apart from galloping round the field this evening and my main issue:

He has to have boots on to protect his legs now BUT they're knocking the scab off his leg. Is there any way to prevent them from rubbing the scab off? I tried to bandage underneath with melolin and softban but it just fell off as cant stay up on its own :(

The scab is about 2 cm in diameter max and situated on the inside of his near hind, right on his fetlock.

Thanks!

Have you tried securing the upper "edge" of the bandage to the leg with surgical/medical tape, like Micropore or similar, to make it stay up?

Seen some tips somewhere about trying a single layer of vet wrap, or cutting off the toe of a tube sock or a ladies' knee high stocking, and sliding that up the leg and then securing it with Micropore or similar in both ends.

Hope your horse's leg is soon well again.

A horse on my yard had a sore on his hock. Owner was bandaging every day, with hock boot over the top, and horse developed a pressure sore on the front of the hock where the bandage was sitting.

Now, after some internet scouring for ideas, all she's doing is sticking a piece of silver duct tape over the scab on the hock, no bandaging or boots or anything, and the scab is healing up. When she changes the tape it doesnt pull the scab off and only takes off a couple of hairs. Nothing to rub it, and no bandages/boots to cause pressure. Worth a try?

Thanks guys! All brilliant suggestions :) we've gone for melolin, vetwrap, duct tape and then the boot. Worked perfectly today!
