Oops... any arab fans in here?

He is beautiful, really stunning.

Mine is Crabbet, Egyptian, Polish and frighteningly full of himself at the moment!

SadKen, when I got him 2 years' ago, he was not loving at all. Just very fidgety and impatient. As he was my first horse, I had vast amounts of soppiness I had to something with.

It really did take about 18 months and now I feel a bit like we are an old married couple! He is very cuddly after we have been out for a ride, and he comes cantering up to me in the field. I can tell he trusts me, even when he is being a complete idiot, like today.

As he is my first horse, I have no experience of owning another breed, but I do feel a tremendous bond with him. I did just take some time to develop.

That's lovely :)

Mine has a mostly russian/polish/crabbet lines.....he's very friendly, loving...loves kisses. Always in a good mood- never nasty- was very timid initially but is actually very brave and forward going. Loves hacking...hates schooling:rolleyes:
Mine was a late developer, he's actually a bit of a chunkster now with an XW fitting saddle:D.

That sounds an awful lot like him, from what we've seen so far. He's not spooky or stressy in the slightest, just unsure and rather shy! He'll follow people all round the field, until they try to approach him and he'll just wander off in the opposite direction. He's very narrow at the minute, but he's on the thin side and has very little muscle anywhere. I'm sure there's some chunking to do :)

He's beautiful OP.

I actually just burst into tears and can't stop :o.

He looks so like my old boy who was 98% Crabbet.

We had 22 years together and I wish we could've had forever. Nothing beats an Arab - loyal, beautiful, tough, intelligent. And the Crabbets are directly descended from the best war horses from the deserts.

I think you've made an excellent choice :)

I notice your boy has good, strong feet on him too :)

Where did you find him?

Oh Oberon, he was beautiful. It's so hard when you lose them, I bet he's etched deep inside you after 22 years. I found the new boy online, from an advert. I found myself coming back to the same advert over and over, and as he was only 30mins down the motorway, I went to have a look. It all snowballed from there!

Funny you should mention about his feet - they've shocked me, as dainty as they are, they're fantastic. His field is a half mile walk away from the yard, up a very stony track. Doesn't bother him in the slightest - yet most of the others are tip-toeing up the grass verges.

did someone link to him on DD recently? He is very smart :)

I'm not sure tbh, I missed that one. It wasn't DD I found him on, but could've been??

Wow, breathtaking.
You must keep us updated, all the best with him.

I will do - I'm sure he'll keep me on my toes! :D

Thanks for all the kind comments :)

What have you gone and done???
You've just taken the first step towards a partnership of bliss, that's what!!
You will soon find out that an arab is the best friend you'll ever have!

Bluewhippet thanks, I'll bear that in mind! He's a bit Jekyll and Hyde, he does come to me in the field and will follow me along the fence when I go. It's getting there! He used to stick his ears back at me, so things are definitely improving. He likes me best anyway which is some comfort! Oberon your lad was beautiful.

OP, he is just gorgeous! What a beauty. Hope you have many years together. Mine is 50% arab but mostly Crabbet within that and I wouldn't hesitate to own another. She is related to yours through Bright Shadow, but I imagine a massive amount of Crabbets are!

I am sure you will be nibbling each other's ears in no time.!

I hope so :) From what I can gather he hasn't really had any one to one up until now - I'm sure he'll thrive on it once he settles into it. He plucked up the courage to approach me this morn, though he's still not sure about the other horses! Bless him.

Arabs are the best! Unfortunately my stoopid computer won't let me see your photo, but I'm certain he's stunning, anyway!
I had a friend's arab mare on loan for years, she was at least 75% crabbet, & what a sweetie pie.
Current horsey is her son, he was just the cutest foal. I would check them first thing before I went to work, and it was so hard to then leave the field and go to work. Was very tempted to chuck a sickie so I could spend all day with my baby! (but didn't - I am mostly responsible :D:D:D)
You'll have sooooo much fun.

If you can get to Addington on 20th July there is the Crabbet Convention Horse Parade. About 100 Crabbets will be there, all of whom have achieved success in their sphere. Tickets are only £5 for the day.

My 2 girls will be there, 96% & 98% Crabbet, both 100% GSB.

He is gorgeous!

I have my Arab mare since August last year and she is amazing! My first horse too, and yes i got a lot of 'ooooo, a chestnut Arab mare as a first horse??!' comments, but she has taught me a lot since i have had her and we are now embarking on the start our endurance career together.

They really are beautiful, affectionate and intelligent breeds.

Mine also has crabbet bloodlines, here she is at our first endurance ride together.

Not a massive arab fan - had one and loved him- but I LOVE my friends Stallion :D

We had him out this weekend to get him seen to see if he could maybe score some girlfriends and he's such a poppet.

**all pictures taken by my mum this weekend and his owner will not mind me sharing them- it is she and I in the pictures**

He is hot stuff!!

Ooh. That sounds good... I'll have to see if I can get there :)

Beautiful!!

He took a few steps towards me (as oppose to away from!) on catching last night, and met me halfway this morn - he's also stopped calling, so very pleased with how he's settling. Those skinny legs are taking some getting used to, though!! :D

You'll soon relax about their diddy legs as they really are tough little horses. You may need to invest in sheepskin girth covers, headcollar covers etc... though, as they can rub easily due to their fine skin and fur.

It wont be long before your new boy greets you cheerfully in the morning and comes blasting over. :)

I'm sure you're going to have the best of fun with him :)

And don't worry about the aloofness, you'll soon be wondering why you were so concerned, when he's demanding you scratch him in his favourite spot / shouting at you to hurry up with his tea- because you're a minute behind schedule / dipping his nose into the bridle so you can go explore, I could go on :D

Yup... complete polar opposite to Rods, I think I've done it intentionally though. New boy is so different that there's very little to compare, and I've always had a soft spot for arabs. He arrived on Saturday, so yes, I've bought him!

He's by Montroze, out of Celtic Treasure. He's so chilled out he's almost horizontal. Bless him. We'll blame the sun. The sight of a big glowing yellow thing in the sky has made me think the world must be ending! :D

Well done you will never regret it, yes they are different 'people', to other horses, you see, they are brilliant, there isn't much they cannot do, and do very well, so enjoy have fun

I've been told he's a tough cookie, so fingers crossed :)

Oh definitely, there's something different about him. Very switched on, cool, calm, but you can almost hear the cogs turning - he seems to stop and evaluate rather then spook.

He's almost like a human 4yo with the way he wipes snot down his "sleeves", too :o

If you get to the convention let me know, can meet up during the day. There's loads going on, Sunday is a series of talks on Crabbet / arab topics. Those of use who are taking our horses are doing so gratis to support the weekend. Going to cost me a few quid in fuel (4-5 hr journey each way) plus stabling was £120 for 3 nights for the two. Can't wait to meet up with friends though (know via Crabbet Organisation & endurance) & chance to look at other peoples gorgeous horses.

He's a little beaut!! ..I have an Arab x Andalusian, 2 of the hottest breeds mixed into one  ...but she's a poppet, albeit very cheeky ;) but such a happy little thing, her paces are to die for!!. I also had an arab on loan a few years ago and she was amazing! Won everything dressage. So you may have a dressage superstar on your hands ;).

I will do! :) Need to double check if I can get over there, but I'll definitely let you know! 5hr journey must be a nightmare, but sounds like it'll be worth it!

Thank you all, he's settling in beautifully - hopefully he'll be out and about in no time :)
