Had a little reminder today that nickel stirrups are not a good idea!

New boots are thinner in the foot than the old ones, so I'd swapped to an old pair of smaller stirrups I found kicking about. Very glad it didn't go galloping across the moors ?
Just realised I have pretty much only started threads about things going wrong- I'm not quite as much of a disaster area as I sound, honest!

We used nickel stirrups for literally years, still have them in fact and never had one break. Guess we were lucky. My sister sent her horse on loan to an equine college. She bought brand new stirrup leathers and irons to go with him as hers were old. They declared them unsafe so didn't use them. However when she got him back she didn't get her new leathers and irons back but some tiny ones that were useless. Gave her the saddle in a rather dark tack room, they checked them off and she didn't realise till she went to ride him that they were missing. Needless to say they had no idea what had happened to them and disputed them even being missing.

To be fair I have no idea how old they were, think they came with a previous loan horse or possibly from a car boot sale.
Nevertheless, the replacements will be steel! ?
