opinions on this hoof

Ok I deleted yesterdays photo with the shavings in it and put a clean one up as a comparison. The distance between the end of the frog and the dog is obviously less in the recent photo, thank god for photos so we can use them as a constant reminder how they were.

Hi peeps, and hello to those still want to post on this.

Well we have had barefoot trimmer 3 times, improvement, but she is wary of trimming too much So I said oh )&**^( I will find the money for the xray to help her. Well today was the xray, her pedal bone is pointing upwards

The angle of the toe is 4.5 cm to the ground and 2.5 cm back of pedal bone to ground, poor horse is weight baring on her heels.

Has anyone got xrays or pictures of the correct hoof and measurements to see how much it is out?

We have brought the trimmer out early so Monday and vet coming again same time to re xray afterwards.

Sadly my vet is leaving end October.:(

ILCP that's not a bit wrong, it's hugely wrong. The numbers should be the other way round with the toe closer to the ground than the back, so 2cm higher at the front is a pretty dire problem.

I don't know if you have enough toe to remove to correct that, but it would be unusual and I suspect you will be told to fit wedges to raise the back.

I know it looks terrible on the xrays, they wont put shoes on as we tried before and she went worse, ah should i say that is the front of the pedal bone to the ground not the toe, allot of toe and sole to remove, quite a bit to work with we just have to keep our fingers crossed for this poor mare.🤞🤞🤞

In your situation, I'm not sure remedial shoeing would help. Allowing the hoof to change slowly might be the way to go, and x-ray every six months to measure any changes. The ligament damage that you previously mentioned may be having some impact on the way things are developing. Might be worth discussing with your vet the possibility of referring to a vet who specialises in hooves and biomechanics, if such a thing exists. Trying to raise the heel and change angles suddenly will cause discomfort at the least. I feel for you, you are between a rock and a hard place with this.

Is there likely to be an abscess track on the left of the picture, from point of frog to outside wall? Or is the false sole beginning to break down? Quite an improvement from your first post!
Its false sole, she had very thick false sole and was hard to remove. Not much left now,, so down to her proper sole now.

Arabi had similar as he had very thin soles then he grew a massive false sole which can be just as painful for them, I fed the progressive earth platinum hoof balancer and I think it really helped.

It does sort itself out but his took time but I did end up shoeing him again but as he has coffin joint arthritis they were not working, he was tripping and toe landing so I took them off about 7 months ago, he walked normally almost instantly and his almost grown a whole hoof now the event line is about a centimetre from the bottom now.
