Hello,

I have found this chap that I really like the look of. There isnt a good confo shot but I cant see anything obvious... can anyone else?
Although he is currently a project horse I would hope for him to get to a point where he is a good 'all rounder.'
He is a long way from me, about a 5 hour drive. Which is why I would like some opinions rather than just going to see him.

I think he is way overpriced as its the start of winter, his breeding is not notable, he is currently un ride-able as they put it etc.. but I cant stop looking at his advert...

Thanks for reading :)

The advert is rather odd, the dates don't add up.

I agree that he seems overpriced too but they don't sound like they will budge on price.

Run. Run. Run like the wind.

£1500 for a horse that has done some light hacking but mostly bucks under saddle for no reason that they have bothered investigating other than a bit of ground work.

No point buying other people’s problems and certainly not for that money!!

Thankyou for bringing my sanity back! I dont like that the dates dont match. The advert is confusing, and your right, it seems that they wont be interested in an offer..
Hmm. back to looking, you have all said things I would tell someone else but apparently forget when I see a horse I like for no reason :D

The advert says he has excellent breeding :confused3: What is his pedigree/registered name? $1,500 sound incredibly cheap to me for a registered AQHA tbqh even with his quirks.

Personally speaking I don't think he is over priced, my pony 12hh was £1.200. like the look of him, bucking is only small issue which can be resolved with a physio, so its the first think I would check before guessing cold backed. Good solid powerful bum I would not say no. Distances is immaterial if you like him my late mare was 5 hrs away in Clyro and my little welshie 5.1/2 hrs from Hook in Camathenshire. We took a day out to see them, my friend just brought one and visited him 3 times before he was n the way from Liverpool to South Bucks.

As for dates being funny I don't see an issue I think seller being very honest which you don't see in some adverts.

Ask from is full name then look it up here http://aqha.uk.com/

They don't state his name, but the sire is desired vision. He is a working cow horse who worked on a farm and is now deceased. nice horse but no competition record so to speak. His dam ruby rozanna has nobody I recognize in her pedigree. I often see adverts for QH broodmares here for £800 who have been ridden and need bringing back into work if you dont want to use them as a broodie.

It does say he was sold as a bucker in October 13 and has been out of work for 6 months !!!!! so that doesn't add up. We can all guess but the only thing to do is phone the sellers and ask for full history and you can take it from there. He does look lovely and this is a cheap price for a registered Quarter Horse, but inclined to think there is a big problem somewhere.

Ah yes I've found his pedigree - it's a beautiful pedigree! Why don't you think it's notable :confused3: There are some fabulous names in there and some lines that I make sure my AQHAs ALWAYS have in them. The bloodlines show that this horse *should* make a very decent citizen with a good and gentle nature, willing and capable, so I'd assume his backing was not done correctly or something went wrong somewhere.

Thankyou for pointing this out. I have only worked with peppy san badgers, nu chex to cash, colonel freckles etc. Who in his pedigree should I be researching to know more? I clearly have a large gap in knowing bloodlines:o

here you go his parents http://www.allbreedpedigree.com/ruby+rozanna, do you know much about QH? most of don't know much about their lines those site I gave you can click on the ancestors

sires info http://www.allbreedpedigree.com/desired+vision

Well right off the bat there is Two-Eyed Jack on both the sire AND dam lines. The most worthy horse ever imo! Then there is Blondys Dude, Two Eyed Jack and Plaudit (fab horse!) on the sire line. Top Deck for a bit of speed. SkipperW on the dam line, Zan Parr Bar and again Two Eyed Jack. You've got a huge amount of the foundation stallions littered throughout this pedigree. It's a pretty interesting pedigree and has all of the right names in there and if I lived in England I'd be there like a shot to view a horse with this calibre of pedigree.

As a normal horse, I wouldn't go and see him and I'd say he's well overpriced with some worrying issues.

Having said this, it seems he's worth considering because he's a quarter horse with good breeding, which means he probably is worth the money.

I guess it would depend on how you'd feel about sorting out all his issues OP! Pretty is not the problem for sure. Handsome guy.

Can offer nothing about QH's but do know that palominos and cremellos get themselves bought by totally unsuitable people, just for the colour! (Don't mean you IR). The ad reads as though English is not first language for the writer.

Good luck, let us know how you get on :smile3: The horse maybe only needs a bit of time off and then re-backing correctly. Who knows, but everything in that pedigree says this horse should be a very good prospect, despite it being my least favourite colour :wink3:

He's probably more expensive than others because of his breed I guess, still a bit novel. Dont get them saying they wont reduce the price as he's "so valuable" to them, if he was that valuable then they wouldn't be selling... Personally I wouldn't bother, green is one thing but this sounds like it has quite ingrained bucking issues which will probably be worse than it sounds.

Could it be a typo they meant 2012? Rode for 6 months (which it says) then off for 6 months? That would add up...

What utter crap you can't generalise that is what everyone's does, I did not here is my boy and I did not buy him for the colour I bred him. but not for his colour

I wanted TK as the stallion a buckskin but my mare would only stand for SEDGEHILL GOLD, so mare chose stallion not me.http://www.cotesbachquarterhorses.com/2011/01/02/sedgehill-gold/

^ this I bet it was it would make sense

There is nearly always a reason for bucking, this could be found in a vetting. If I was in the market and liked him I would

speak to owners and request more info
speak to my vet
go view him
try him

Then go from there - maybe ask the owners if i was interested if it would be ok to get a chiropractor to check him prior to payment, should I try him and like him got him vetted.

I would question his usefullness for breeding if he is a gelding :p

He actually looks quite nice and could just be cold backed, but advert sounds as though he isnt currently in work. And if he does better shod then why isnt he?!
