My TB is rather accident prone in the field, but he lives out. Was thinking of buying some turnout boots or chaps to protect his legs a bit from the frequent cuts he comes in with- what are your opinions? Would they get too hot in summer? Wet and cold in winter? Thanks! :D xxx

I bought premier equine turnout boots recently, no sweating or rubbing after a couple of days use but I feel they will do if I use them every day, my mare has had a tendon injury and I am totally paranoid now, so between a rock and a hard place.....

I bought a pair of equilibrium close contact chaps in the winter to help shift my mare's mud fever. I must say, I was very sceptical at first and had always been of the opinion that they could never work, but they did keep the mud out. I don't think they would be terribly hard wearing for everyday use though, and I wouldn't want to leave them on all the time, although they say they are breathable. The packet tells you to take them off periodically (for 12 hrs, I think, so I had them on during the day and off at night when she was stabled).
You really do have to keep them clean on the inside though, so whatever you used, you would need 2 sets if he wore them all the time.

tbh I think whatever you used would result in sweaty legs in the summer - I'd be inclined to find the lightest brushing boots you can if it is essential - something that allows the air through.
