Ugh I honestly cannot believe how little common sense my coloured horse holds.
Last night it was really warm, so I left my two out until I finished work, at 9pm. When I came to fetch them in at 9, they ran off, and as it was a warm night I left them out.
When I left my house this morning at 6am I saw both of them asleep in their 25acres of field, when mum left at 9am she said she could only see Bertha, and called me at sixth form to tell me when I got home to check on them.
I got home at 3pm and heard Bertha in the field, on walking down to find them, I could see Bertha, but only Oshk's head, and on second thoughts I decided Oshk had jumped out and into the sheep field next door. Was very worried as the sheep field is contained by a layer of sheep wire, topped with two layers of barbed wire, which I don't turn my horses out into, as I hate barbed wire.
On climbing over the wall, I realised my horse was not in the other field, but wedged in between the two

He had some how pushed the wall row down from his side, and become wedged between the wall row and the barbed wire fence:

I was so shocked, Oshk is not in the least bit an affectionate horse but whinnied and whickered on seeing me, obviously happy to see help!
I paniced major style and on evaluating the situation broke down into a fit of tears. Bertha had leant on the wall row behind him, pushing it over and making it impossible for me to back him out, and he was really stressed out, we think he has been there since about 8am.

I called Daddy Dave who tried to calm me down and broke off from his very important meeting with accountant to come to my aid. Oshk was obviously exhausted, and whilst I was undoing the fence bent over he rested his head on me and fell asleep.
Daddy dave got here quickly and snipped the barbed wire free. Aftersnipping the last layer free, Oshk surged forwards, and as Dave quickly pulled the wire so Oshk didn't injure himself on it, he accidently wrapped it around me, so I have three painful barbed wire wounds on my tummy that my St John's Ambulance trained grandma has seen to

He has some superficial wounds on him where the barbed wire has gone through his rug, you can see in the following pictures how much his rugs saved him and his injuries, the vet was here to do the cows and has given him the once over, he drunk three big buckets of water and is tucking into hay inside now, so he is obviously very tired

What a traumatic day for you, I'm pleased he escaped with just superficial wounds. He looks so sad in the picture where he's trapped between the fence!

You say he has no common sense, but obviously he has or he would have gone NUTS - almost any other horse would in that situation

Thank god it is only a rug ruined, and not Oshk himself

OMG what a silly boy! What a lucky escape he had - it could have been so much worse. (Especially if he didn't have his rug on or had panicked). Glad he only has superficial wounds and hope your tummy isn't too painful.

I am very shocked he didn't try to jump out from there, he was a very very calm boy. Oshk has leaned on the wall row, and as it has fallen, it has created a hole, in which he climbed through and walked between the wall row and the barbed wire fence until it narrowed to a point, all those acres of land and he walks into that. It could have been so so much worse and he was so upset and obviously felt very sorry for himself, I just can't believe he did it!!

I know, I am very pround of him, he stood perfectly still- not that he could have gone anywhere, the barbs had tangled into his rug and he couldnt move, but dad had to use wire clippers inches from his face and he didn't stress out at all, I'm just glad it didn't end much worse!

OMG!!!!!! In that first pic, he just looks soooo embarrassed as though he is actually saying to you, yes....i know it was stupid...but.......I JUST HAD TO!!!!!

glad he's ok though!!! He sound like a right character!!!

Horses never fail to impress upon me just how thick they actually are. How in the world some of these accidents occur to them is beyond belief at times.

Glad to hear he is fine and that your tummy will be okay.

His face was a picture, he saw me, made a lot of noise, and then as I moved closer, and I started speaking to him he seemed to realise how silly he had been, honestly, he is such a dipstick!!

Oh poor Oshka, what a day! He looks so embarrassed in the first picture, same expression as my horse had when stuck on top of a road cone itching her belly

Glad wounds are superficial, hope your belly is ok!

im so glad that you are both ok...good job that he ws wearing his rug..Horses amazes me how they can get into awkward situations and then exspect us owners to rescue them...bless him he just wanted to get to the other side

Hope your belly dont scar..barb wire can be lethel at times

My Sec D did exactly the same when he was a 2yr old

Horrible feeling though, I felt really panicky when I found him.
Glad yours is OK.

Oh poor Oshka, and poor you!
Thank God he was not seriously hurt, or you, when he made a bid for freedom!

Hope neither of you are too traumatised - think I would have to hit the wine box big time after that!

poor poor oshk....at least he stayed still...what a plokner to get wedged like that...

how are you fairing...it must have been a shock to find him like that...
