Other people riding your horse

Just wondered what your views were? I am pretty control-freakish over my horse and I don't let anyone ride her (there are a couple of exceptions and you know who you are!). People whose riding are like I am happy, or an instructor who was teaching us - but some people seem pretty laid back about letting others ride their horses. Just interested in what you think and why?
 
wont let anyone ride mine unless they've never ridden before so that i know they will do as they're told whilst on board and they only walk How much of a control freak am I? I hate watching the judges ride mine at shows

It's rare I will let other people ride my horse. All your hard work can be undone so easily. On the rare occasions somebody does rie my horse I like to be there (unless of course thye were being sent away for schooling or to be competed

I'm not too bothered as she was a riding school horse anyway. She's very easy-going, easy to ride unless she knows you know what you're doing. I'd let almost anyone I know ride her. But at the moment she's had a week off work and is off her trolley, so it would depend in what circumstances and at what time they wanted to ride! Mostly you're all welcome on here to come pitch up and have a sit though, that's how un-bothered I am!
My last pony though I was more protective over, but only because I did SO much work with her and I didn't want just anyone sitting on in case it all went wrong!
 
Depends which horse! If I totally trust the horse 100% and its like a bit of a dobbin then I'll let my friends ride (ONLY if I know the CAN ride!). But I wouldnt let anyone ride my two neds I compete the most. I mean Id let my trainer ride them but that'd be it!
 
I would pretty much let anyone ride my horses. But what I let them do is different. Our horses haven't been anything special plus they have all been pretty laid back so unlike to chuck anyone off. I like seeing other people ride my horses as i can see how they go for other people.
 
I have let my sister have a ride on mine but only the once. apart from that, i'm not planning on letting anyone ride my horse, except my mum and my event trainer.
 
my horse is THE EASIEST hack, and i am quite happy for anyone to hack her - provided that they come out with me (me riding something else) and they are light handed, and dont kick. Schooling....... hmm i dont think i have put anyone else on her to school her in a flatwork sense - i have had one instructor get on, be told where to shove it, and promptly get off again (i dont blame the horse, pinning her head in was never a good plan). however i have let people SJ her as a favour, and my current instructor has jumped her a few times and she was fab. TBH anyone whos riding i approve of can get on. and at the mo i am encouraging as many as possible of those people to ride her, as she will have to go on loan at the end of summer, so i need her to be happy with anyone on her back. she is such a chilled out dude that she really doesnt mind - its me who worries (more that people wont like her as opposed to her mis-behaving...)
 
quite easy to be honest my instructor rides him for me in thw week ans so do my two very good friends and I wold let most people have a sit on major!
 
My very novice friends ride Bertha and Monty, and I used to lead my 10year old cousin out on Herc. Oshk is a different story, its not that I am protective of him or anything, but he is a sensitive ride and if you knock him out of sync he can take a while to bounce back, so he has only been ridden by me, Bec, Mum and of course Rob

I let anyone ride almost all of my horses. I have a couple that I am a bit precious over but that is only because they are in training right now so I don't really want someone undoing what I am teaching them.
 
My trainer rides my boy as and when... and the odd other person has ridden him for a few minutes to feel what x movement should feel like (i have a school master).

But i dont really like it that much

Even if my trainer is riding him, i tend to be there which is rather silly!
 
I would not mind really, but he is not a novice ride because he would take the p@ss too easily! I think if work commitments increased so I could no longer ride him as much I would have to get someone to exercise him to keep him from putting on weight. The people that do that round my way are pretty competent riders anyway so that would be fine.
I don't think I would go far wrong with other people riding him because he would not be made to do anything he did not want to and he would not tolerate an idiot for long!
 
As long is someone is a quiet but firm rider I don't see the problem. I personally don't think it's beneficial for a horse to only be ridden by one person. Also depends on the horse. I think that anything that keeps the horse thinking is a good thing.

I wouldn't let a complete novice on my boy but only because he'd be likely to take the pee a little - I've already asked our yard manager to take Ty on his first jumping expedition!
 
It would depend on which horse. The Highland is a superstar, safe for 9 year old children up to absolute novice adults...in the school. Out hacking she steps up a gear and she is positively wild out hunting. The bigger two require more able riders, especially the IDxTB.

However, I am not under any illusions, there are literally thousands of riders out there who will be more balanced, more schooled or just more skilled than me and who could all ride any of my horses any day of the week. As long as they aren't rough and unsympathetic, all are welcome to hop on the beasties any time- I only watch the first time to make sure that they are safe, competent and relatively quiet riders

It doesn't worry me at all. But I do tend to buy pretty sane horses anyone can sit on. Olympic tends to get sat on by all members of the family from my 4 year Old Niece to my Brother in law.
 
my mum rides my horse through the week and i will let my friends ride if i am there, and my good friend can ride him whenever she wants. But i can get very possesive. However(this may seem mean!)I quite like it when he doesnt go as well for them as for me!!He is quite difficult if you dont understand what he wants.
 
We try to get as many people on board at the yard as possible. Obviously we assess riding skills by letting people ride the easier ones first, but all our horses need to be used to some fairly useless judges riding a big shows, so there is no point them going beautifully for one person, and really badly for other people! Part of the skill of showing horses is to be able to put a cr*p rider on board, and the horse STILL gives an excellent ride.
 
Anyone can ride Boss so long as I think they wont fall off him!
Most people can ride Floss so long as they do as I say because she's learning everything afresh and dont want any hang-ups or bad habits creeping in!!

No-one can ride Moon, unless I know they ride extremely sensitively and quietly and I supervise but tbh, I'd rather sit on her and do it myself!!
 
Very fussy about who rides my horse too, not necessarily about their riding skills alone. I feel I've worked very hard to get him to go how I want, I don't want someone else fiddling around and confusing the issue.
