Other people riding your horse

The recent article in the h&h said it all. The one to one relationship you build with your horse with just you as the rider is the best you can give.

I would only allow an instructor onboard if needed, otherwise just me.

would completely depend on who the person was. i let my boyfriend ride jerry but only if i walk beside him. my horse is a quiet ex racer and my boyfriend a total novice. and we're only taking a halk in walk. not sure about letting a novice bounce about in trot on him as he's not long since out of racing. don't know what would happen!
i've also let an experienced friend hack him out as her horse was lame and i had the opportunity to ride another horse out with them. if i had a quiet horse that was pretty unfazed by anything i'd let any of my friends or family ride them. but i don't so i'd be fussy for 2 reasons, safety of rider and sanity of horse.

Nope picky who rides my horse.
No one really rides my horses unless I totally trust them or if i am there to keep a close eye.
Obviously dont mind trainers riding them, but i would prefer to do the work myself.
I occasionally let ppl ride Winston, rare tho and noone has ridden snoopy yet bar YO's son and Ollie Townend

Mind you, shoudl i fall ill and they need working then I may have to re-think lol

Im like Weezy - really enjoy being able to watch her work well from the ground. it gives me a better idea of what she is doing with me up-top. Also love seeing her ridden by better riders, intrigues me!

I am so over protective of my horse...She is 11 and has been ridden by five people her whole life (I know this as i've owned her her whole life). I NEVER let people just have a go on her - the other three people who have ridden her bar me have all been trainers ridding her to improve her and the fourth is her loan owner (who has it written in the contract that no-one other than herself and her trainer may ride my horse, no friends, family nothing!).
TBH I don't even like a lot of people handling her at all, I let my friends stroke her if they meet her but that is it really. You can tell though - she does get stressed if other people ride her and she is very wary of strangers being around her so if she were to be sold this wouldn't be ideal and would be extra sressful for her but she will never be for sale so she doesn't need to worry!

My lad does RDA during the week but that does not bother me as not proper work, he gets hacked by volunteers but is only for 40 mins and no where special. Apart from that I only have 1 friend that I allow to properly ride him and even then it is VERY rare.

Would rather no one rides him but I dont have the time at the moment.

the only people who ride otto are ashleigh and her instructor if she feels the need to get on him , thats not because we are fussy who rides him but he is very much a one person horse, he is even funny with people on the ground that he doesnt know as well...as for the pony anyone daft enough can get on her! lol

I find this post quite interesting - I am so unprecious about my horses I will let anyone ride them. Frankly it would take some pretty crap riding over a longer period than an hour to undo anything I have done plus I think it does them good as it makes them easier in the long run and easier to sell.
I even let other people compete my horses. I also do not mind if someone dislikes them as its only opinion but as long as they have valid reasons.
I find I learn just as much from watching someone else - Poor Bossanova every time I see her near my horse I am legging her up to see if he has improved!
