Before the dreaded dentist visit today, went with my sis to the local tack store, as she wanted to buy a new bridle for her new-ish 'oss and I remembered I had a £10 voucher stashed away I got for my birthday.....

We need some new saddle soap (I like the glycerin stuff for everyday-type tack cleaning, and save the 'Jefferies' stuff for before a show....) and had a few quid left on the voucher....

So I got a foldaway hoofpick, a normal hoofpick, a long comb and a posh lilac comb (ya know, the Roma ones....) and on getting home, found it was perfect for combing MY hair, cost alot less than the comb I bought from Boots a while ago, and does the job just as well!

The dog has an old padded saddle cloth in her bed, an old rug covers the tractor engine up in winter, an old set of padded travel boots insulates the water tap and pipe in winter and I find horse shampoo is fab for washing the dog.....

Various other items find their way into the house for general use.

A hoof pick is fab for helping to mend broken toys.

lunge line/lead rope for the dog

baler twine- just fab for everything

plaiting bands for when your hair band breaks

mane and tail cond for getting out said paiting band :rolleyes:

rug bags for under bed shoe storrage/ or bedding

sup tubs for bits and bobs around the house

horsey wound cream works just as well as the human stuff
 
Old T/O rugs to weatherproof guinea hutch.
Jump wings as a moveable washing line with cane pole for heavy laundry items.
Polypad for dog cage in car.
Tubtrugs always migrate home for the garden.
Baling twine for a million things at home.
Bridle racks for OH's lab at work. Something to do with eletronic design development..I dunno.
Feed stirrers for mixing paint.
Schooling whip for keeping OH in order.:p
 
Old crash hats with harness's cut off - shove them sideways into hedges & they quickly become used as 'des-res' by the local feathered community :D

We have blackbird sitting in an old H2, a pair of robins in a 1980's skull hat & Thrushes are happily nesting in another old skid-lid in the hawthorn hedge by the yard gate!

(dont put them in with the cup upwards, they fill with water - sideways is best)
 
I use a metal curry comb for cleaning dog hair off of the stair carpet. Much more efficient than the hoover at removing all of it.
 
we re-built the roof a couple of years ago and obviously the heavens opened nearly every dy we tried to do some more and the tarp wwe had wasnt quite big enough so we had about 5 masta turnout rugs up there too! didnt flap about like th tarp and much easier to move one section at atime rather than the whole tarp! brilliant!
 
Another one who has baler twine holding most things together! Washing line, chicken run, trampoline etc etc
Saddle racks in the out house from when I used to keep tack at home now hold numerous different things!
Horse shoes used to peg down the wire for the chicken run :) and make fab rug hooks at the yard too...also, can you tell I made the chicken run myself? lol
Old NZ rugs as a cover for the back seat of the car and front door matt :rolleyes:
Pulling comb & body brush to 'groom' the dog.
buckets are totally interchangeable between garden, garage, yard & house lol
All sorts, you can very definately tell our home is one of horse lovers! :p :o The list is a long one lol
 
Nylon foal headcollers to take calves to top barn at weaning.
Lunge lines to teather dog.
Old rugs for pipes and things in the bad weather.
Woffle rugs to dry of cows clipped and washed for photo shoot.

ahem, any way.....

Hoof pick, for weeding between pavers/ stone slabs.
old dandy brush for cleaning bucket and troughs.
Old rugs for covering stuff in shed.
i have nettles steeping in a feed bucket of water.
Like others have said, bailer for allsorts.
Leg straps from rugs make good dog leads.

I currently have a baler twine washing line. It's the end of a roll out of the baler so every time it breaks (which is not often, it has to be said), I just unwind some more!

My dog chewed through mine in less than 10 seconds!

Sheep fleece is also fab on pipes! But that's not horsey, so I'll shut up.

What a fab idea !
 
I use Vetrap all the time for injuries to my knee/ankle/calf. It fits well under my shinnies & doesn't peel apart when it gets wet like the human stuff does!

Used to use the lead rope for the dog all the time

Bailer twine has been used on many things.. can't think of any other ingenious uses for horsey stuff at the moment :)

Have used cow shampoo on the horses before, can swap all manner of animal materials.
 
Oster bristle body brush - great for brushing daughter's hair (not been used on horse!), also mane comb great for detangling her hair

Tubtrugs- gave a load of these to my mum for her garden to plant potatoes in. Mum said 'you might have washed them'

Fleecy exercise sheet- wrap child in them when she's cold at stables

Hoofpicks make good tools/screwdrivers....

Baler twine to repair a car exhaust...

Old rug covered our out-door tap last winter

Supplement buckets for OH's fishing trips -he keeps maggots and stuff in them:eek:

Lead ropes for dog leads.....

And what you can't use an old clip from a lead rope for is no-one's business:)

Please say you only grow roses in your back garden!!?? (and that you live in a detatched house with no overlooking neighbours!)

hahaha I love the idea of gardening in a riding hat....My friends hat doubles as hands free when she is driving- she wedges her phone inside her hat and has driven all round London like this!
