Well, I had a fall off ebony about 10 years ago, luckily I was wearing a back protector, one of the older styles that was a bit more flexible than the bricks we have nowadays. Even so I dammaged my back half way down... I kind of bent backwards and jarred it. No break I don't think but I never actually went to the doctors or had an x ray. After lying there, wiggling my toes and getting my bearings, I gingerly got back on and rode home:o I have known for a few years that my back was out, I always wear my left shoe heel out faster than my right, and I have a low dull ache in my lower back when sitting at a desk all day. When I ride, my left hand side is never as strong and I struggle when schooling as I sort of collapse on the weaker side.

So, I decided I would get a back support, to help even myself out when riding. I can't believe how bad my back must be :(:( It arrived today and I put it on about an hr and a half ago. During which time my right shoulder down to the middle of my back alongside my spine has really started getting angry, infact my entire right side is a bit narky :( My left side feels blissfull but the support has slowly made my good side hurt. I have obviously got a lot that needs sorting out in my back and I am going to have to give the drs a ring and ask for a referral and investigation into what I did 10 years ago and how to get it as good as it can be.

Ouch :(

ive got the same problem, although its become worse since i started running. I went to the docs and said id had a riding accident a few years ago and that my back was now giving me problems... His reply was .. your hip is rotated you need to go private to sort it, he handed me a card then said good luck. Spoke to the back person and they decided it would cost me around £250-300 to fix as would need multiple sessions. I cant afford that so my back still hurts :(
Friend who was in a car accident hurt her back, docs had no problem helping her on the NHS. I would be bad for not telling them it was a riding accident.

Hi QB. I've had a similar response to correcting my posture using Alexander Technique. I started getting neck pain and headaches especially when I'd been cantering. Id had problems with my neck for ages but we had what i referred to as a truce. If i didnt bother my neck my neck didnt bother me. But then i started riding so holding my head to the left was no longer an option . I went through a couple of weeks of feeling worse before I started to improve. I can't see the difference but friend's have commented about my posture having improved. There will probably be lots of protests from your muscles which by now got used to thinking that the wrong (crooked) way is the right way. I almost gave up as I'd had previous attempts to correct my neck& shoulder problem and stopped each time because of the discomfort.

Nixxyx go back to your GP. He has no right to say that to you. The NHS is there for all regardless of how you came by your problem. Ask for a referral and don't take no for an answer. Good luck.

Thanks, so just need to get an appointment with a different doctor this time, and fingers crossed they listen. :(

sounds painful, have you ever seen a chiro?
*whispers* no:o:o I know I should have:o:o

Yeah, thats exactly what my problem is, my body thinks its normal. It never affected ebony greatly because I was always acutely aware of my unevenness and so made a great conscious effort to sit level and square, but what I am finding difficult with ben is finding the strength in my leg to guide and train him as I am, and I would rather not use spurs, although he is fine with them. He isn't a hypersensitive chap, so you need to be fairly clear and firm. Added to this and my weak side is his worse side so he needs more support and I am just collapsing my hip and failing miserably. The support is mainly for riding but feeling the absolute agony it causes in the muscles on my other side after an hour (I know this will get better) I realise now I need to get it looked at and fixed... whatever the technique, I need everything loosened up and then I need to retrain my muscles.

QB may still worth going for a once over they may be able to help but I'm not sure how much it is to go for an initial appointment.

Oh I know, and I have not ruled this out at all. My mum has a very bad back, some of which is down to her being a nurse in her former years and some of which is hereditary so she has an exceptional chiro that she sees and I am hoping that I can get a referral to her via my GP, for assessment and treatment. Either way it has to be sorted... especially now I have felt the extent to which its out of synch due to putting my back in the correct position!

Ouch!! Fell off a few months ago, thought nothing of it, pain wasn't going away after 2 months. Had an X-ray and turned out had fractured spine :(
Hope your back sorts itself out soon, Physio + pilates are amazing or sorting out bad backs :D

Have you ever been on the rack? I had terrible back pain for about 10yrs too, after a nasty fall from a pony. I hadn't been a day without pain since the accident.
They put me on the rack and after 4 goes on it, I had my first pain free day :D I had a bit of pain today, but I had been bent over for a while, so it's to be expected.
Good luck! back pain is terrible :(

Not very helpful doctor:mad: I've just had my collar bone pinned after a fall from a horse and was told they'd use a plate which has to be removed to mend it rather than pin as they thought it would give me a better chance of returning to full fitness. My physio starts next week..ouchie time.

I've got two herniated discs and to be brutally honest, getting a referral was nigh on impossible. I had a MRI as I had loss of sensation in one leg, physio wasn't that helpful and nothing else was available. Much may have changed in the last few years and no doubt where you live will make a difference. I found that losing weight and pilates helped immensely. A very helpful gym instructor was a godsend as he had months of spinal rehab at Stoke Mandeville after a broken back and knew what would help. Most of the so called complementary therapies aren't available via the NHS, so you will end up forking out for many, Chiropractors charge around £50 per 30 mins. Sorting out your posture will save so much wear and tear on the rest of your body, and this is relatively easy and much cheaper. Hope you get yourself sorted.
