Our 2013 BD debut...

Can you explain a bit more about what the fenugreek is supposed to do and why?

Pretty much as PS says.

FG stimulates appetite and general condition. It is also beneficial to the digestive system, and has been noted to reduce digestive discomfort. It's meant to be quite like cod liver oil composition wise and is high in vitamins and rich in calcium. It's good for developing muscle tone too. Powder apparently much more efficiently absorbed than the seeds.

All I know is; I've got one hell of a fussy poor doer, possibly suffering from ulcers, who didn't eat much more than 1 slice of haylage a day and left 80% of any hard feed given. He now licks his bowls clean and is eating 3 slices of haylage a day, is less explosive to my leg, doesn't brace his back against me and is generally more consistent in his training. It's doing *something* good!

It's cheap as chips, so if you're curious, I'd definitely get one of the small pouches and trial it :)

Hmmm thanks both of you.

I might add a small bag to my next order from pro-earth and see if it does anything. Mine has been much better since she's been on their Pro-Hoof,and is holding condition better but she still sometimes needs to be encouraged to eat all of her feed. I've had to make sure I don't put her fresh haylage in until she's eaten her feed otherwise she won't finish it. Although she eats plenty of haylage, she also leaves quite a lot, I wish I could persuade her to waste less, but I'm blowed if I'm going to restrict it or double net it when she needs the condition, and she stresses if she runs out (or if her haybar/net is empty because she's put half of it on the floor).

I'm just about happy with her weight at the moment (can't see her ribs but can feel them) but she could do with more muscle, especially on her quarters which are distinctly angular.

Love him :) what a difference!!!! He looks so much bigger than he is, real presence about him :)

Aw thank you :) Nice that you said he's got presence, we didn't half feel dwarfed by everything else in the warm up :p

Could you put her haylage in a trug on the floor as well as some in her haybar? Might encourage her to eat some of the stuff she pulls onto the floor? Fig does the same, he even goes so far as to pull it into the middle of his stable and lay on, but not eat it  And I always debate giving him a little less, but then worry he'd run out completely by some freak chance!!!

We're lucky as Bruce is our resident hoover, who will quite happily munch the slightly dusty, slightly shaving-y stuff that the 2 bay boys won't :D

Fig has got a nice little padding of muscle over his croup and flanks now, that was his weak point condition wise and he sometimes looked a bit 'pointy hip-y', so def sounds like it could be beneficial for your girl :)

Thanks.

I could try a trug, but to be honest I'm not sure it would work as it would all get pulled out and the trug would probably get kicked around....... I'll try some in one tonight though, can't hurt to try. I've got a spare tyre that I could put the trug in too. If I put it where she normally drops lots then it could help keep the waste off her bed too. :D

And I'll add some fenugreek into my next order from pro-earth. I'm just debating whether to get some copper for her flat feet too.....

Could do with a Bruce to hoover up, I hate throwing away so much haylage!

Ours are clipped to twine loops with leadropes, otherwise Fig would boot his round his stable!!!! Good idea with the tyre though.

Everyone needs a Bruce :D
