Very very proud of my boy today!

We've done little hacks on our own before and he's been very good but have never braved a long hack. He used to be very very spooky on hacks and try to p*** off home at any opportunity!

We hacked as much as we could in company which he loved and then I had someone walking out with me on foot slowly increasing the distance between us. It got to the point where he was totally calm hacking in company and was good on the shorter hacks so today I bit the bullet!

He was such a good boy! We had a small disagreement at the place where we normally turn to come home if doing a short hack (note to self - don't always turn in the same place!) but he was foot perfect after that! We grew a few hands past the scary sheep and had a look at the big GSD that was coming towards us but didn't even bat an eyelid at the big noisy tractor!

I know it's probably nothing to most people but a year ago this wouldn't have been remotely possible!

Will try and upload the photo I took of him talking to the Shetlands we met on the way round.

Very proud mummy here! :D

Scary sheep, GSD AND Shetlands ! I think most of the horses I ride would have had a meltdown at at least one or all of that selection. I'm really admire anyone who hacks alone. I've only done it for a couple of short rides on a friends horse to prove to her and the rest of his critics that he wasn't a dangerous monster. Well done you and horse :)

Thank you both for your lovely comments :)

We love hacking and I think although it's lovely to go with your friends it is nice to go on your own sometimes and just totally relax and take it in!

Well done I know the feeling of having the ultimate freedom after having a horse which wouldn't hack alone. The bonding is great and I love just chatting to my mare which I can't do in company, well I could if I fancied being called the crazy lady haha. Lovely pony, clearly intrigued by those smalls :)

We'll done you, me and my boy have started little hacks on our own I think it's a huge achievement but other people don't lol it takes a lot to do it you should be a very proud mammy 👍😊😊

I 100% know the wonderful feeling you have right now. The pure delight and pride in your horse :)

You're right, to others it's an everyday thing, but to those who have horses who just don't hack...there's nothing like it!!

Well done you and ponio!!!

Awww well done you! This year we have been hacking out away from the yard ( crossing a busy road to a lovely country park for the first time), not as brave as you as we've only been out with others for "nannies".

Thank you! I almost wish i had before and after videos - its as if he hardly noticed he was on his own today! i wouldn't say i rode at the buckle but for the vast majority of the ride we were on a loose rein :)
