Our first Novice!!

My boy has made me love the breed. And he's changed a lot of people's opinions about Trakheners. He's not an easy ride but when it works I feel like I'm on top of the world.
Normally our 2nd test is a nightmare as he throws a strop about having to go back in but today he went better than the novice than the prelim. Clearly this is more his speed. Next one is at the end of the month so hoping our medium trot will be stronger by then

I know exactly how you feel. My lad is so highly strung. It hasn't been an easy 8 years with him to say the least but he tries his heart out for me. He came from a horrible woman 8 ago who had absolutely battered him, he suffers from sweet itch (hence being hogged) and he had been left in a field for his sores to get infected with no rug for protection. Unfortunately he learnt to fight back to people. He is now totally happy and 1000% he's just growing old disgracefully lol.

Keep up the good work and you show everyone that you can do it !!

I love the pictures Trakehner92, he is a stunner!! I am so chuffed for you.

You can really stick a middle finger up at those b*tches at the yard now can't you?!

So, when's the next one??

Thank you very much!

I can indeed. When the news was heard I got told that one of them had done this test and it was 'easy'. haha!

Well it's our first ODE on the 1st of May so we are having a couple of weeks off competitions until then and then I think we are going to go to Northalleton next month and have a bash there! :) When's yours? :)

That test is not easy, the novice test I did was easy, Novice 30 as a first novice test is really hard. Knobs!

Hmm I don't really know when my next test is. I'm in the process of selling my boy, so debating whether to enter in to anything else. I have my eye on a lovely mare, however she is very very green so if I was to buy her, I don't think she would be ready to compete until winter time.

I'm trying to weigh up whether to buy her (she is SO pretty, and I think is full of potential, and I have fallen in love) or whether to keep looking and buy something a little more established so I can compete this season.

It's a bit of a pain, I bloody hate selling horses. Already had most of my weekend taken up with a vast array of complete joy riders and time wasters...

Which ODE are you doing??

I know ... I also know that this person hasn't done this test because she's only done 2 tests and she told me which ones she was doing lol. Aye never mind!

Awwh really. When the time comes to look for another horse when my lad is ready to retire ( He's 15 and full of life so not for a while yet ) I don't know what I will do. It's such a hard decision to make. I personally like putting the work in to a horse but it's so lovely to get on something that is already established!

We are doing the novice ODE at Epworth equestrian. Nice and easy for our first one. However when I hired the XC course the other day some of the jumps where quite scarey for a novice! Eeekk! The show jumping and the dressage will be a doddle... just need to survive the water jump half way around the xc course haha!

I'm sure you will be fine! Is the water fence a bit of an issue then?

Yeah I know what you mean, I would much rather buy something green to bring on myself. However this mare is extremely green, she can barely canter as her legs are still so gangly she hasn't really grown into them yet, and she doesn't know where to put them. It's more like a motorbike around the arena at top speed and then break back into trot.

I am looking at 6yr olds if I don't go for her, so still will have a lot to work on. Decisions, decisions!

Yeah unfortunately water has always been our big problem. We got him in when we went practicing and after a few times in he was eventually trotting in and jumping the boat on the edge of the water to come out but I think it's going to be one of them where it depends how confident he's feeling on the day. Oh well ... Practice makes perfect and it's our first one so we will go and give it a damn good go!

Awwwh yeah I know what you mean. Maybe a little too green but if you've fallen in love with her I bet it will be hard to walk away! Let us know what you decide when the time comes! :)

Very well done to you both, your horse looks great and you look like you get on well together. I'm so glad you're as proud as you should be and not taking that silly woman's comments seriously - why can't people just be nice and pleased for others when they succeed sometimes?! Anyway - the point is you did brilliantly so onwards and upwards!

You make a really smart pair :) Well done!

Thank you guys! :) I can't wait for the next one!

Sorry I've been away at Stockland Lovell (which was great fun by the way!) with no wi-fi and very little signal but had to come and check as soon as I could.
WELL DONE!

Great results well done, he's a very smart boy

Thank you very much! The new dressage saddle should arrive this week and then he will be like a proper little dressage horse!!

Onwards and upwards! Can't wait for the next one!

Lucky you, I've been a few times in the past when i was still willing to pop a jump.did you have Jo Roberts as a trainer?

No she wasn't available. We had Natalie Passmore (we've had her for years) who is FAB. I think maybe the best instructor I've had. Lovely and calm and can really see what exercises each horse needs and can tailor a session for each horse and rider even in a group. I could not recommend her highly enough. I am head of her fan club.

We also had Sarah Thorne who was very school-ma'am-ish (if that's even a word!) and very much into "coaching". She kept asking us to give feedback on our performance (marks out of 10) and what we thought we had to do to improve etc, The younger ones amongst us (all uni students) really liked her approach so I think it's the modern way of teaching that they're used to but I just found it a bit uncomfortable and found myself switching off and thinking, "Oooh that looks like a good jump over there, I think I'd like to do go do that one....and that one.....oh and that owl hole thing....ooooh a blue fence, that's a bit different."

I just kept giving myself a 6 and I think she got a bit cross with me when she asked what I was aiming for and I said I'm happy with a 6 as long as I don't have to jump anything bigger. :o

Having said that I was very pleased when she told me at the end nearly all the fences I had done were on the 90 course.

Hello all. As you already know the situation with the girls at my yard I'm thinking about leaving the yard as they have the yard owner on side too and it's making my life a misery.

Any advice on what I should do?

I'm so stuck :( x

Go, life's too short and it's meant to be fun and with your lovely, talented horse it will be on the right yard.

Take your time to find somewhere that's right for you. Which area are you in? It might be worth starting a thread on the relevant regional board to ask for recommendations?

Good luck :)

What have they done now to make you feel this way?

I feel awful for you, it must be a horrible situation to not feel comfortable at your yard :(

Agree with annagain, perhaps you could ask around on the forum for local options?

My horse has been turned out with mares and he's come in absolutely battered. I suggested to the yard owner that he stay's with just geldings and the others kicked off that they want them all out together. When I refused one of them went crying to the YO saying I was being aggressive and abusive !!

Not only that they openly told my physio that I can't ride and I drag my horse around.

It doesn't necessary upset me but I just don't have time on my life for them.

I've got a lot.of problems in my personal life and I feel like this is going to make me blow.

Have the mares and geldings always been turned out together or is it a fairly new thing?

I hope your boy isn't too badly battered :(

Nope when we moved up it was agreed that geldings and mares are grazed separately.

It's only because the yo had taken on too many mares when we only had space for geldings!

That's a difficult one then. Not very fair of YO if that wasn't what was agreed when you arrived.

Also very difficult if the YO isn't one to side with you!

Is moving a realistic option? It sounds like it may be worth looking into if not for your sanity but for your horse, if he keeps getting beaten up in the field!

It's all such a nightmare.

I have secured a place at my instructors yard which is an absolutely gorgeous yard.

It's a lot more than I pay now and I fair drive from home but it's full livery and at least now I can concentrate on my horse without people pointing and laughing at me.

I'm actually relocating to Leeds in 6 months (scary!!) so he will be coming to Leeds with me so my instructor knows that he's only there for that time. I can concentrate on riding and also on the move knowing he is 100% looked after.

I'm sure I'm not supposed to feel this nervous about it?!

You will be fine :) It's clearly the smartest idea to get away from that yard. At least with your instructors yard you know someone, it's not as scary as going to a brand new yard and not knowing anyone.

Good luck! When are you due to move?

That sounds ideal. You're bound to be a bit nervous, it's a big change to a big part of your life. Also, if he's on full livery with your instructor you can take your time to find the right place in Leeds as he can stay there until you're ready, you won't have to rush to move him when you move as you would if he was on DIY.
