Sorry I managed to press post early. Meant to say /full pony diary! Horse has done the following over the last few weeks and has the following planned. Week 5 being this weekend just gone.

Week 1- 80cm ODE
Week 2-Week off no work (I was on holiday)
Week 3- no comps normal work
Week 4- BE80
Week 5- 2 day riding club camp
Week 6- BE90
Week 7- Week off no work (holiday)
Week 8- Week off no work (holiday)
Week 9- no comps normal work
Week 10- 12 mile fun ride
Week 11- 90cm Blenheim eventers challenge
Week 12- BE90
Week 13- 2 day riding holiday in Devon (hacking)

We've been asked to do the eventers challenge for riding club but it wasn't something I had planned as ideally wanted to give him a week off from any outings, wondering if I am asking too much to have a solid four weeks of doing something every weekend, even if it is varied? I really want to do the fun ride as he loves them and it will be nice for him to do something low key so if I need to scratch something it will be Blenheim.

After the riding holiday he would just be doing a couple of BE's until the end of the season (probably two more between then and end of oct) and then life will be at a much slower pace for winter. I am careful with ground and fully prepared to not run if its not suitable, he is very fit and well but I don't want to be one of those people who over competes/rags their horse!!! At home he pretty much just hacks as we don't have a useable school. Boxes out for the odd bit of fast work.

Pony to make post less boring!

I think that looks like fun! Probably wouldn't want to keep it up for months but he's had a few breaks in there and assuming he's got a reasonable basic level of fitness I don't see the problem myself. You know your horse and if he didn't feel as though he was up for it you'd take a step back, so my two penn'orth is crack on and enjoy your lovely horse!

I like to get my youngster out and about as much as possible - I don't compete him much just yet but I like him to see lots of different things. That schedule looks ok to me, my only concern is doing the 12mile fun ride after two weeks off work. It depends on how fit he is and how soon it is after his holiday but I personally wouldn't do it after just a week back in work. Everyone is different and your horse is probably very fit if you're out Eventing!

He's got a lot more holidays than I do!!

Crack on imo. My horse has rarely had so much as a day off (and then only due to an abscess - her, and broken ribs - me) since Feb 2015 and you would be hard pressed to find a happier, healthier and more up for it horse. He's got about 23 hours a day to rest most days hasn't he ;)

Thanks yes he's super fit!

He doesn't need to have two weeks off as i am only away for a week, just thought it would be nice for him. Tbh if he lost 50% of his fitness he'd still be fit enough for the fun ride and I believe (could be wrong!) it takes nearly two weeks for them to start to loose fitness. Thanks though!

Is he living out as that would help keep his fitness whilst youre away, also on the fun ride I assume it won't be 12 miles of trot and canter?

Nope he's in during the day. He doesn't need to have those two weeks, he could just have a week. But honestly he's super super fit, too fit in fact. If he lost some it would be no bad thing!

I think that looks fine :) The fun ride will have a good bit of walking in it too and then he'll have a week to recover! He'll be fine, enjoy! :)

That looks lighter than my schedule. Trying to make up for lost time and have 2 competitions plus training most weeks.
I wouldn't give more time off than necessary for your holiday though.

It is lighter than my old boys schedule and he is now taking it easier as he is 18. We have 2 or 3 outings per week, training and comps.

If they are fit and happy, then go for it.
