Does anyone do this? Any issues?

At wits end with short coupled coblet who removes a shoe regularly in the field. Lives out, no hinds shoes and lovely feet.
Clean removal with shoe and hoof looking ready to be reunited. She seems to alternate which one and sometimes misses the shoe and gives herself a nice dent in her heel bulb instead so I don't think it's usually the other front.

I only had her fronts shod because she's a determined paw-er, which combined with roadwork meant she was wearing them down too quickly; no other reason. We have mostly stopped the pawing when I'm there, but she does it at all other times... I'm hoping if she gets more work (could be a whole other thread!) she may learn to conserve her energy and the shoes can be abandoned again; but in the meantime, is permanent O/R boots going to cause other problems?

If she lives out & has good feet why dont you ditch the front shoes now!
Road work is good for the feet as long as youre feeding good vitamin supplement & taking care of ridding the feet of mud, urine, manure!

They will go over winter most likely with the softer ground. I did try to stay without this summer, but with the hard ground, pawing and roadwork, the hoof was simply wearing out faster than it was growing. They are such good strong feet (now, after a lot of hard work and supplement experimentation!) that it wasn't worth laming her to stay without. Of course, that was before I discovered that the regular heel-bumps would translate to fortnightly shoe removal...

My tb wears them 24/7 with no issues. She's barefoot but I still can't risk her catching herself, she does some impressive acrobatics in the field.

My boy wears his 24/7 on all 4 feet. Never had any issues, I use neoprene/leather type ones rather then rubber, and they have never rubbed. He has been known to pull off a hind shoe in the stable, so he just stays in them.
They only come off for dressage and when he goes on the water treadmill

Well that sort if makes me feel better. Low maintenance cheap cobby thing my foot! TB is less trouble...

If you take the shoes off and are getting hooves worn down too much stick on some hoof boots for road work when needed.

Yes, looking into that, if I can't stop the pawing. Poor substrate hacking so my cavello simples experiment was largely unsuccessful - and still doesn't solve the over-reaching!

Mine wears them every single day and has done for the last 5+ years. I do use the fleece topped rubber ones though as found the plain rubber ones do rub. I'm not a fan of the neoprene ones for 24/7 as once they're wet they stay wet for a while! Much better that she rips a rubber boot from over reaching than pulling her shoe off or causing herself an injury!

Pretty close to. They come off for 30min while he comes in to eat and ironically I don’t always work him in them. I do have to be careful of rubs.
