I've got a very fussy horse and trying to feed her with natural feeds if possible. She's on sugar beet and oats which I'm happy with (she won't touch plain chop), I was using thunderbrook synergy but it's such a struggle to get her to eat it! I wondered if anyone could recommend any powdered balancers which are palatable? Thanks!

I’ve recently switched to Oxydane and mine seem to be eating it happily. One of them used to eat around his Equivita despite being a very greedy pony!

as I understand it anything with the appropriate amount of things, especially minerals will be grim - the basic things you are trying to get in are grim to start with.

Anything really palatable will be full of stuff that not necessary - just bulk to make the core materials taste better.

I think most manufacturers seem to leave it up to owners to work out the best (least worst) way of feeding them as all horses are different and all owners a different view of what is bad. I had a question on this in the feed section and got some good and different responses which I'm trying

Whatever you choose I always have to start with a teeny bit, then increase a little every day. Mine is suspicious of anything new. She has eaten supplements from Equine America without drama.

This is my view too.

I use forage plus mineral balancer (but think are many similar ones). I take half a jug of micronised linseed, half the balancer ration, 50ml of beetroot powder, 50ml of herbs. Mix all in well, store in a tupperware pot. I add it too my soaked feed, just before feeding, again mixing in well. Seems to disguise the bitter minerals taste well. Feed two tupperware pots a day. Not so bad when make 10-14 pots in one go.

I haven't tried it, as Alf likes the pelleted version, but Equimins Advance Complete comes in powder form as well. I think it smells grim, but most horses seem to eat it happily

I use Equimins Advance completed - the powdered version. You MUST start with a tiny amount and build it up, just bunging it it will probably result in them leaving it. I mix it into soaked hay cobs which my cob loves. Also add approx 1/8 mug of micronised linseed which helps.
If all else fails I've never found any horse that doesn't love D&H Health Mash. Even a tiny soaked amount smells amazing.

don't know how the spec compares but i won a tub of Whoa supplements which seem to have lots in common with other powdered vit and min supps but also include pre/pro biotics and other things. Mentioning as it's apple flavoured so even my suspicious 3yo ate it up readily. I'd probably have continued with it if I didn't feed the young ones a balancer normally as my grass is rubbish and i feel it just tops them up, might be worth a look, they offer it on subscription but it's easy to cancel or amend.

I've always liked NAF Haylage Balancer and even feed it when they're not on haylage. Contains fenugreek which both of mine gobble up no problem.
