Parelli, don't know much about it, why are so people so anti it?

Just read on another post that a lot of people think its cruel. Will admit never seen anything about it only heard people say they love it and have a few dvd given free and never watched. Why do people on here seem so anti. Please educate me.
 
I dont agree i want to know more about it and know what other things they do. I feel if they are bad i should be able to inform other about it not just say i have heard they are bad.
 
Do a Parelli thread search on here. That should bring up posts about it and I'm guessing peoples views on it will be the same now as they were then. :)
 
I have thats what got me thinking, i always assumed that because mags like your horse gave away the free dvds it must be ok, dumb i know.
 
Aside from some of the methods used 'behind the scenes' except when the mask slips. my main issue is the extortionate amounts of money they take from followers, too much like a cult for my liking!

But also the fact that if followed as recommended to the nth degree, it is almost that doing Parelli becomes the end in itself, rather than, as with Monty Roberts et al, a relatively kind way of improving the way you and your horse work together to do the kind of activities horses and riders normally do.
 
Any training system should give you tools to use that work for you and your horse.

I have taken ideas from many people over the years to help me look at something differently and find a solution to a problem.

But no method should be followed blindly and no trainer or guru is infallible.

Exactly what lachlanandmarcus said. I was interested when I first bought my horse and I use a rope halter, but the "programme" has gone so far off track from helping people with their relationship that it's ludicrous. Play the games by all means, they can be helpful as a groundwork tool, but I think that's as far as you need to delve into this.
 
I admittedly watched pat parelli, then I joined this forum and it really opened my eyes to his 'real' techniques.

I'll never watch his programmes again.

Kelly and monty roberts are natural horsemen... Pat parelli on the other hand is a money driven man who has no horse's well being in mind.
 
dislike Parelli massively, but I do like Clinton Anderson, he seems to be hated too.... I have never seen anything awful about his work.. have I missed something?
 
Clinton Andersen is despicable. I have seen so much abuse from him in clinics and behind the scenes - did you follow the controversy regarding the reining-rollkur recently? All that stuff you'd see the world's 'best' practice Anderson has got down to a T.

I also fail to understand the appreciation for Monty Roberts. Honestly, he is more money grabbing than Parelli and his training is based on dominance and pressure. Unfortunately, hitting, pushing and forcing is easier for people to learn to do 'properly', whilst a lot of Parelli's good principles are awash in sea of merchandise from their own side and idiocy from his followers.
 
Can't say I have ever seen Monty Roberts mistreat a horse in any of the shows he's done for TV. What he does makes sense to me and from what I've read and seen it also makes sense to the horse.
 
I see people use Kelly Marks/Monty Roberts et al, to help them to achieve their original goals (SJ/D/hacking solo/whatever). I see Parelli turn people away from what they wanted to achieve, into a world in which only Parelli is allowed.
 
I've also never seen Monty Roberts mistreat a horse.

I thunk his methods make a lot of sense and I admire him tremendously for what he has achieved and learned off his own back, especially after the upbringing that he had.

I totally agree with this post. Parellis original basic programme was excellent and I am sure his sets are available on ebay at reasonable prices. I don't think anyone could fault his keys, principles, responsibilities and qualities......

Well I fault his keys, principles, responsibilities and qualities on many levels and for many reasons, the latest of which is his using water withdrawal as a training tool, actually tool is a good word to describe him if you precede it with complete!
 
Its 'breaking' a horse disguised as something else.....its appalling...I borrowed the dvd set and was in shock by number 3...I then posted on here to ask if others felt the same.

'cracking' a horse under the jaw with a metal clip is all you should have to explain to anyone....there are many other things wrong...water deprivation...I didn't know this one! I just wish we could stop him...disgusting!
