parelli? how do i go about it?

The OP doubtless knows nothing about previous 'debates' regarding Parelli on this forum, therefore the comments on 'getting the popcorn out' were a little presumptious. Sure, I've used the popcorn smilies before, but only in the middle of a bitchfest, not in anticipation of bother....

Like I have done, mentioning you are 'not a fan' is enough I believe, and being diplomatic can do wonders, when the OP is clearly thinking this forum actually offers sound advice....

I did feel the popcorn jokes might be a bit confusing to the OP (although I'm not exactly an old hand here, and I worked it out!).

But I don't think it was bullying, all the same.

OP - this isn't the best forum to ask. Try a different, less judgemental and cynical one.

Just to add, my horse is trained using NH methods, not parelli - and no I didn't do it, I bought him already trained - and he has THE best ground manners in the world, which is one of the reasons I purchased him.

so wet my self at replies to this but mmmm seriously why can you not think as horse and look at world through thier eyes . why do we need to spend money on stupid carrot sticks etc when its so simple - michael peace google him and read his books - no carrot sticks no whips just think as a horse - see what they see and try and think as they do - brilliant guy and changed how i look at my horses world- pmsl go spend your money lol me? I will carry on looking at and understanding what my lass sees thriugh her eyes - thank your mr Peace :)

...but maybe the posts could be viewed as intimidating to someone who hasn't a clue what it all means...?

I'm certainly no prude, and can laugh and joke with the rest of people, but there is a time and a place for everything, it's no wonder this forum can be viewed in a negative light by both new members and oldies....

Anyway, that's my take on it.

Hope you find the information you want OP, and you make your choice on balanced opinions and evidence.

:D

I've returned to horse owning late in life and am trying to keep my mare on a low income with not a lot of knowledge. So far I've not found this forum judgemental and cynical. A few people are, but I've found most have been helpful and knowledgable.

If the OP was serious, then I apologise for my popcorn and hot chocolate comments.

If the OP is serious, then I suggest that, as far as I'm concerned, she look to someone like Mickey Gavin. Sensible head on his shoulders. Looks at the world from the horse's point of view and encourages one to learn to do the same.

arching yes maybe this forum is judgemental but alot of experienced and opened mined people like me - sat watch parelli and read about it and sorry for me it just doesnt work - natural horsemanship is that natural not tormenting an animal - my lass manic dangerous unrideable -amazing just thought like a horse saw the world through her eyes - nothing amazing i promise you - i just allowed her to think and trust - no carrot sticks no harsh tugs on a line no harsh voice - now a puppy dog so sweet so loving and so trusting - forget the gimmicks the "carot sticks( pmsl i mean wat!!!!) save money think horse :)

How to go about it? Don't!

All NH is just good common sense, there's nothing mystical about it, and you certainly shouldn't pay a fortune for a bit of rope or a stick that you could make yourself for 50p.

Best thing to do is to find an instructor who you trust and follow their advice - do what works for your horse, don't get bogged down with one particular system.

Was watching Mickey at a charity fundraiser just the other day. He does read a horse well, always good to see him at work.

Well Dressagequeen - If you are still reading - I have sent you a PM - look at the top of your screen. I see you've posted on various topics, so think you are genuine and not trying to start up another Parelli fight. I wondered if I might be able to help you find some suitable help, maybe not Parelli, who knows? But I think anyone trying to help you will get lost in all of this.

(Sometimes when people want to "do" Parelli they only have a vague idea of what that entails and someone like Intelligent Horsemanship, or another nh-type trainer with a different approach would be better for them).

He's been grand with a couple of mine and with friends' horses. Got a shocking loader loading on his own, nice and steady. Was good to see him in action :D

Will be having him out soon to help with clipping the Dizz (not her thing at all, so better to pay MG than to pay the vet to sedate).

do have a look around at the different ways of walking the road to where you want to be  . Of course you might not want a carrot stick or rope halter ... but then again you might not want a lungewhip, crop, schooling whip, lunging cavesson, side reins or any other piece of equipment various posters here like or dislike according to their beliefs ;) ..... in fact you might even decide on a clicker and a bag of treats :D :D :D :D

or even like some of us a mix that suits you and your pones

Ignore the comments that are negative, and locate a NH or PNH instructor, attend a clinic or have some lessons, that is the best way to start. The videos and on line stuff helps but like any discipline, nothing better than getting hands on help to fast track your progress.

I have many friends that are achieving some really great stuff, and some of them started with very little knowledge about horses, some had not ridden for years, and their horses were not easy, plus they had a lot of fun and made lifelong friends on the way.

I find pony nuts work wonders - u should have seen my greedy lazy ass cob following my friend riding in front today on her superfast tb
- she had pocket full of ponynuts - miraculous - bigbum moved !!!! :D:D:D

Another wind up, I presume. Still it seems to attract the same old names spouting the same old crap ....

PS I think I have worked out which 'regular' poster Team Barney is ;)

Op has got a reasonable posting history, so benefit of the doubt as far as I'm concerned and I'm willing to be helpful.
You've really got me wondering about that last bit though Golfgirl LOL!

I think that as you only post on Parelli or NH threads, you won't realise that most of us post on a wide variety of subjects.

Not quite sure about the jibe at 'reg' poster TB. Whats that about ?

I'm not sure why it would matter if Teambarney did also post under another name. I'm also not sure why anyone here would consider being rabidly anti-Parelli to be something they had to be devious about.

How patronising! I don't 'only' post on Parelli or NH threads in this forum, but I mostly do because that's what interests me. For your information I posted on one of the wind up threads that was deleted earlier today (which was not a Parelli/NH thread) offering genuine advice because I thought it was a genuine thread! :p

LOL ! Its up to you what you post on ( but look at your record of posts ) -I was just pointing out that you may have missed regular posters posting on a broad range of topics.

Popping in from the P.O.P Clique - natural horsemanship is all about thinking from a horses perspective- and if I was a horse and someone was tugging on my head and waving a ruddy big stick in my face I'd be obliged to wave my two back legs in their face to be honest....

OP, I'm with Tinypony on this and am sorry you have got some of these replies if you have an interest in finding out more about Parelli. Don't let your enthusiasm for learning be dampened whatever happens... :) That's the only way to find and develop a way that really suits you and your horses.
