Ok, like I said in my introduction post I've been away from horses for a few years and there's new stuff around that I've not heard of. Sooo I'd like to ask.

I remember when Monty Roberts burst onto the scene with NH and everyone was raging about it being the "IN" thing. Joining up and all that softly softly sort of stuff got everyone going and it looked like the way to go. I go away for a few years and on coming back, allbeit only on a virtual level for now, I discover Parelli. I read this forum and understand Parelli is not particularly popular so why?

I'm in no way defending NH/Parelli cos I am old school, but having said that I wouldn't dismiss new techniques if they proved to be advantageous. I have an open mind and I'm curious as to why Parelli is so unpopulau.

I have to admit the ticket price to their shows could be a put off

Oooo i'll be first to hand out the popcorn. I've made my feelings known on here before. Search paralli. The main complaint it thats its a rip off. Oh and they advise feeding treats to agressive biters! If you have sky (or know someone who does) its on horse and country TV alot, i've never been able to watch a whole epp, got as far as 20mins once...

Search youtube for Parelli, and make sure you are somewhere where you wont get in trouble for swearing and laughing.

I don't think we need to explain the reasons to anyone who knows how to ride, how to look after horses and has some common sense.

LOL... that vid made me laugh a lot!!

The thing with NH/Parelli is people see them as one and the same, they aren't. A lot of NH is stuff that people practise without even realising it half the time, some stuff takes more time to learn and makes perfect sense and works really well (for some horses and some people... not all systems work for every person/equine obviously). I does annoy me that NH and Parelli are seen as the same as I think its the more extreme stuff with Parelli in particular (bouncing balls off heads, having to have a particular halter for things to work etc) is what people take such strong exception to.

My advice, don't actually listen to anybody else's opinions, do the research yourself and figure out if there are elements there that would work for youself and your horse. Some people love it and some people hate it and some are inbetween, but that's the same with everything in life.

Woop that video again , I've just danced round the room to that song ( no horse involved though , sorry guys ! )

** Now sits down to start munching on Jaffa Cakes

Very true, when I first saw Parelli on H&CTV, before I joined HHO, I thought 'what a load of b*llocks!' and then my feelings were confirmed when I joined here

I have to admit that I use a little NH on my Newfie when I can't catch her, but this just involves backing up to her with my head down whilst making puffing noises(PMSL, I must look like an idiot!) but it's the only way I can catch her and is much more logical than Parelli.

If you want a confused, headshy horse who can stand on a little table or jump a barrel do it.

Parelli is a load of bollocks.

Designed to fleece money from middle aged women to scared to ride their horses and so resort to games and carrot stick dances.

*Tinkerbee exits thread taking some popcorn with her*

I take it Parelli isn't the way to go then, I did wonder when I saw their website, I think I found the answer lol

Well, I saw a film on one of their marketing DVDs (free with Your Horse or some such mag) it showed Pat P galloping a horse into the back of a fast moving (open backed) truck and getting horse to jump inside from full gallop. I thought it was just plain cruel, dangerous and irresponsible. And I just hate the whole marketing spiel, really vomit-worthy

I'm not for Parelli or against it, I won't knock something without trying it BUT when I looked at the website and watched these free sample DVD's of success stories its seems so unbelievably cheesy (to the point of puking) typically American and very OTT.

Why don't they practice what they preach and help people understand their horses by lowering the god dam prices of all their merchandise!!!

that would help more!....I got the impression that its a bit of a money making idea...although I'm sure everything they do is fantastic and obviously they have got a special talent with horses...not knocking that what so ever.

I'll sit on the fence and eat my popcorn...sweet flavour as the toffee gets stuck in my teeth.
