Parelli's return!

Oh, and at the beginning of August I got a Section B 10 year old broodmare who wasn't handled at all. She couldn't bare to be away from another horse, and she reared constantly as she didn't know any better. You couldn't touch her at first.
Now in October, she's the sweetest little mare who loves attention, cuddles, and working. She's also registered BSJA now. No carrot sticks or 'taches in sight :D !!

So!

Harriet Day has been out cross country on her horse H riding in a Parelli rope hackamore. Fairly noticeable I should think.
On the other hand, could it be that people don't see "good" Parelli or nh-style horsepeople because they don't look a lot different to anyone else? They may be out there riding among you in normal-looking tack and you don't realise it.
As I said, I'm an "nh" person, and when I'm riding my horse on a hack wearing a bridle how is anyone going to know how he's trained? My mate is very into Parelli, but when she rides out she looks like anyone else. She doesn't carry an orange stick as a label.

I really don't see what relevance this has to NH or Parelli, or anything. So you take an unhandled horse and handle it. It turns out ok, so what did you expect.

Is there any need to pounce on BB every time she posts ? Perhaps she too was posting an example about the success of boring old (free) horsemanship without buying the video, the carrot stick, paying for membership and wearing the T shirt ?

No, you are right there isn't, and I'm sorry.

I certainly do not want to appear as a bully, because I'm not.

I do get very frustrated by this whole fixation of carrot sticks, CD's, moustaches and all the stupid irrelavant stuff people focus on.

If people want to buy it let them. If you don't, don't.

Everyone has the choice.

I do agree with Andy though, and don't think he's bullying. I must admit I sort of thought "so what?" as well.
Some people are good at training horses - so what?
Some people are numptys with their horses - so what?
I don't think that you can necessarily tell who are the "Parelli" people and who aren't, because when they are out and about with their horses, they might not happen to be carrying their orange sticks.

p.s. I am sure that, in the UK for example, there are greater numbers of non-Parelli horse numpty's than there are Parelli numptys. Think about it... I don't know about anyone else, but I see them all the time.

This is precisely what I meant. Thanks :)

What I meant by my post was, what's the point in dishing out a fortune when you can do it for free with a little time, patience and effort?

It's personal choice I suppose. However, when I counted up my annual costs as a Parelli student I didn't really feel it added up to a fortune. I went on clinics, but only a couple a year, so that added up to less than I had been spending on weekly lessons. Buying the equipment was a fairly large initial outlay, but a one-off, and it just never wears out. I'm still using Parelli halters that have been in regular use for about 10 years. I also spent a lot less on tack because I kept it simple, and sold a lot of stuff from my tack cupboard that I no longer needed. I didn't buy Parelli saddles, bridles etc, they weren't even on offer when I was a student. If they had been I don't think I'd have been interested in buying over-priced tack though.

Exactly! If you want to do it, and can afford to spend a lot of money on it, that's fine. If you want to do it but can only afford to spend a little money, that's fine too (and it can be done). What is much more important is the amount of time and effort that you are willing to put into it. Without that, any money you have spent would be wasted.

If you don't want to 'do' Parelli, that's your choice, but I can't understand this great need to knock and 'hate' those who do - I for one find that rather pathetic ....

I think that if people choose to "knock" it then that's their choice too. I probably wouldn't call them pathetic.
I'm not calling anyone pathetic. If people disagree with PNH and have valid reasons for doing so, that's fine. But in general, castigating, ridiculing and name-calling others for being different/holding different opinions from you is extremely anti-social and rather sad, don't you think?

I've been thinking about this and I feel that the Parelli marketing machine is geared to the American market which is different to the UK particularly the UK equestrian scene.

The idea that if you don't do Parelli you are in some way cruel is quite frankly absurd, and should not be taken literally.

The American way of marketing started over here with Encyclopaedia Britannica, when salesmen told people that they were dis advantageing their children if they did not buy all 1 million volumes(I made that number up), and your child would be thick if you didn't buy them.

A film called Tin Men which is really funny highlighted the American sales technique, it was so accurate it got used as a training film.

Americans are just different to us, separated by a common language.
