"Police may occasionally relieve some of the pressure on the kettle by allowing people to leave"

Is what it actually says. In general you cannot go if you wish. They cannot tell if you want to go home or will carry on protesting elsewhere.

......and it says ""Anyone determined to stay - like Ms Trench - may be held for hours, without access to food and water. "

"Eventually", say the police, "most [protesters] get fed-up and agree to depart peacefully."

does it not?)

In some parts of the country that might be the case, but round here we have Peterborough, Corby & Wellingborough on our patch - Corby in particular is a Labour heartland given the industrial heritage - this support is no longer guaranteed and is something that energetic campaigners have been able to capitalise on. Phil Hope had better make this year's expense claim a big 'un as it will probably be his last feed from the public trough!

I hope Ms Smith's constituents let her know loudly and clearly just what they think of her expenses claims with a cross in an appropriate box!

Yes, I should think a lot of Labour MPs are racing off to John Lewis to fit their houses out with new household appliances, curtains, porn dvds etc., not to mention filling up with petrol as many gerry cans as they can carry!

I'm sure that with the likes of Tory Helen Clark now representing the alternative to Labour, peope will vote in their throngs for a Conservative administration at the next election!!!

You are at least 4 years behind the times, although she declared her intention to defect she never actually did so and following her criminal conviction, doubt she stands much chance of re-gaining any seat in the commons.

I'm pulling your leg. Did you see the youtube video of her? Unbelievable!

On a more serious note, I look at the Tory shadow cabinet and feel quite depressed. Labour are tired and sapped of energy and ideas in the same way that the Major Government was prior to Blair. But I don't see a viable alternative. Whatever you think of Blair he seemed supremely plausible prior to the 1997 election. I personally think Cameron is light-weight and full of bullshit. Osbourne ditto. The only ones I vaguely like are Hague and Clark.

The funniest thing she has done since being sick in her handbag at a constituency function!!

The Tories do have some serious contenders, James Paice's Honest Food campaign amongst a wider rural strategy is appealing to a broad base, and there are many potential candidates who will be fighting the next election who come from very strong backgrounds in other fields, who have seen something of life and have a feel for what is important to the man in the street. Not all will be future leading lights, but the average voter feels that they are people to be trusted.

I'd take Osborne's mathematics over Darling's any day - I wonder if he forgot to carry the 1 when he was working out whether we could afford all these expensive bail outs...

All they have to do is keep the ship on a steady course and they will get in. Labour are ####ed.

Mind you this business with the Lenny Henry lookalike might cause some bother!
