So smudge passed the vetting! We got a 5 stage in the end and she passed well, 100% sound and had a good recovery. But the only problem is she was scared of the vet. she was flinging her head about but then eventually he got near her and was also wary of the needle. she is perfect in every other way and for my budget and distance i can travel theres nothing else im going to get even close to her! So just looking for other peoples opinions please, she was ok in the end and was obviously ok to do flextion tests etc.

It sounds better than ive put it. but im just worried that if she needs a vet immediatly then they wont be able to get near her? Might need to use a mild sedation for blood tests in the future. but i suppose i have to make sacrifices if she is perfect in every other way? Arghh stressed isnt the word

I wouldn't hesitate to buy one that is slightly afraid of the vet if it ticked all the other boxes.

Mine is terrified of vets but ok for jabs so needles aren't a problem. A good, sympathetic vet can (and does) work with that and hasn't caused any problems yet.. Besides him stressing me out when they visit!

It wouldn't put me off an otherwise good horse that was what I wanted.

Mine needs three people holding her to get a needle in her neck. But she's perfect in every other way so I wouldn't dream of not buying her because of that - there are no perfect horses.

It's something you can easily work on at routine visits. An understanding vet, some treats and a little patience will sort it out.

Sounds like you're onto a winner.

I wouldn't worry, when we had the vetting the boy was frightened of the vet and seemed quite stressed with it all, but is fine with the vet we use regularly.

Mine doesn't seem to mind the vet but has a massive needle phobia! He's getting his teeth done on the 18th which I expect is going to be an excercise in patience and sedation too since he's such a wimp with all things medical  Other than that he's my perfect horse so it wouldn't put me off buying either :)

Good luck with your new horse! :D

Wouldn't worry at all - it isn't that uncommon and vets are used to it. Exciting news that she has passed - congratulations :)
