Hi
Had the saddler out today to check my boy, have only got a close contact jumping saddle at the moment and was not really happy a) with riding in it every day b) was not convinced it was fitting that well now he has a bit more muscle and put some weight on. (previous post re bucking - flying changes)

Not too bad news was that the jumping saddle was ok, but the saddler agreed that it probably was not that good to be using every day and flat schooling in it.

Anyway... found a saddle from his selection that fitted well... seemed to be comfy enough... I say seemed to be as I have not ridding in a dressage saddle for almost a year now and I know it takes me a while to get back into it.
It is a Passier Corona..... and it is *cough* 1900 € (about 1620 GBP) *coughs again.. saying it was bad.. writing it is not much better*
I know to some of you it is maybe what you expect to pay for a new saddle.. but it is about 14 years since I bought my last new leather one (the jumping saddle I have was new, but is a CC Wintec pro)
... I can do a deal where I pay him part of it and then so much a month for the next 12 months (interest free)... told him I would get back to him tomorrow as need to see if I can do that financially...

So... want to know if anyone has one.. what they think of it.. I know it is a personal thing, but might help if I can see if anyone has any strong opinions either way.

Passier is quite expensive in my opinion... Also you can get them much cheaper second hand so you could find out the size and width and look for one on Ebay?

I had a Passier jumping saddle which I loved....... but the pannels were very hard (think stubben) so I could only ever bring myself to use it with a prolite. It was around £1500 new and I sold it on ebay for £300.

If you know what you want, and what size, I'd wait for a second hand to come up.

I think you are right, the more I think about it, the less I can justify spending that money... I would need to go without food for several months

and I would have no friends or family left as no one would stand a chance of Christmas present this year

I have the passier Corona, its one of the newest models, luckily I have a very generous husband.

My dutch horse was difficult to fit (rather wide

) but its good for the rider too as it sits you deep and secure without restricting your movement as some of the saddles with large knee rolls can.

My saddler sold it to me with the proviso that it can be quite easily altered to fit any horse which is attractive with a young horse (dont know how true this is as havent yet had to do it but would be very interested in what your saddler has to say about it).

My saddler said the same thing re the fitting, but I am afraid my boyfriend is not that generous :-( so will have to keep looking for a cheaper option

I bought a new 17" Passier Corona 6 months ago but am about to change it next month.

Pros
- really nice quality, still looks brand new
- seems to fit a variety of horses. Olympic rider at yard kept borrowing it for various horses, young and old.
- the weight on the horse is ditributed over a large surface area, it has never rubbed or caused him any problems. I just use a thin saddlecloth

Cons
- it doesn't fit me very well hence my reason for changing (althought not sure what to change to) I am quite petite and find I get lost in the seat a bit!
- knee rolls?! Are they even there?!! It has a deep seat but doesn't lock you into position like some saddles, just personal preferance if you like that feeling or not.
