We've had out horse for a while now, but haven't managed to change the passport into our name as we need it almost every weekend to compete. How does anyone else get round this? And how long does it take from send the passport off to getting it returned?

I've always sent it off immediately.. mainly because I'm unable to ride until the saddle fitter has been. Ours came back pretty fast, about a week I think.

I've just done a change of ownership with wetherbys and they've quoted 2 weeks. There was a fast track 2 day service but I'm not in a rush so didn't pay the extra. You're best off contacting the pio to ask.

Depends on breed society that passport is going too. Mine needs to go to America and there is lots online about passports being away for 5mths+ so that's always put me off sending mine

Photocopy the front page, markings page and vaccinations pages and take that with you competing whilst your passport is away.

Not that it's relevant to me but some BE events don't accept photocopies. There was a long thread a wee while ago on FB about someone who'd forgotten theirs but had/could get a copy and they wouldn't accept it or let her run.

Thanks, she's with the Irish Horse Register so might give them a call. Going on holiday in August, so maybe that will be a good time to do it.
