My friend has been telling me she will need to claim on her insurance for vets fees. She mentioned she didn’t get her horses passport updated into her name when she bought him, she’s had him 4 years now.

Will this affect the claim?

I’ve looked my policy to see what it says as we have same insurer but it doesn’t mention anything.

I highly doubt it, my insurers have never asked to see the passports and have paid multiple claims.

She should get on and sort it out now though ;)

Recently I been asked for a copy of my passport at renewal with 3 different insurers and now since the flu thing they are asking for all pages of the vaccination record.

I’ve had to produce passport pictures for an insurance claim, but it was the vaccination history and race day vet inspections they were interested in (OTTB). I don’t think they asked for my details in it...which is lucky because I never changed it into my name!

I’ve made numerous claims with petplan in the past and the horse hadn’t even got a passport and they paid (horse came unpassported and never got round to it before she was PTS. Only had her a few months)

I have only needed to show passport to the insurance when soli was pts. That was with nfu. When minto was pts 7 months earlier petplan didnt ask for it.

The only time it may become an issue is in the unfortunate event of a Loss of Use claim. A friend of mine had to provide bill of sale etc as her passports wasn’t updated.

It isn't likely to affect a basic claim - but she really should comply with the law and change the passport. Having a death or LOU claim refused because of the lack of some basic paperwork is really the last thing anyone needs.
