I don't ride anymore really, but my horse's passport is in the glovebox of my car.

My yard wanted to have it on site, but I declined, by horse my passport. I couldn't risk it if I wanted to leave and not on good terms, them holding my passport hostage. (I am on good terms with my yard I may add but I am also paranoid!!!) They are Jockey Club registered so could be inspected at any time, however, the passport is always within the 3 hour time limit. If I go away I leave it with my parents 3 miles down the road, they could then produce it if this ever happens within half an hour.

If I move my horse yards, I follow the 4x4 and trailer in my car and if I remember I chuck the passport in the glovebox of the tow car. If I don't remember I am right behind them in my car.

I never took it hacking with me (Where would I put it, its huge!) but it would be in my car at the yard to be able to produce.

Suppose it's not as enforced in Ireland/NI, but would always bring passport to any competitions. Usually bring it to vets as well, but have forgotten couple of times. I don't normally take it to lessons unless we are traveling very far!

I as a rule don't take it with me, too worried for it getting pinched, at the end of the day I liken it to leaving the keys in the ignition of your car. If at an event my horse with passport, trailer and car were stolen, im pretty sure I would look like the idiot.

But having said that were are not often over 3 hours away so it can easily be got should something happen.

Edited as I forgot to add we would also not require it in the case of a breakdown as its a trailer we would get someone else come to collect trailer and horse and the car would be taken. If it was the trailer then another trailer would come.

I never used to but now I keep it in my car all the time.
However if I used another car for any reason I wouldn't particularly think of taking the passport too.

I take it on long journeys or if I'm going somewhere where I know it will be checked. I don't tend to think about it if I'm going locally, to a lesson or something.

I wouldn't take a friends horse without a passport
