I don't ride anymore really, but my horse's passport is in the glovebox of my car.
My yard wanted to have it on site, but I declined, by horse my passport. I couldn't risk it if I wanted to leave and not on good terms, them holding my passport hostage. (I am on good terms with my yard I may add but I am also paranoid!!!) They are Jockey Club registered so could be inspected at any time, however, the passport is always within the 3 hour time limit. If I go away I leave it with my parents 3 miles down the road, they could then produce it if this ever happens within half an hour.
If I move my horse yards, I follow the 4x4 and trailer in my car and if I remember I chuck the passport in the glovebox of the tow car. If I don't remember I am right behind them in my car.
I never took it hacking with me (Where would I put it, its huge!) but it would be in my car at the yard to be able to produce.
