Took my lab out in the field behind my house earlier and took his ball and launcher with me, had about 10-15 minutes there then walked back, was walking fine but very dirty so popped him in the bath, once i got him out i noticed both his front paws were like this, but his actually paw pads were fine?

Any ideas what he could of done and what i should do about it?
they have been bleeding and when hes not sleeping seems to be licking them alot.

That was my thought. Looks like he has been doing some skid braking/turning, the ground round here is so hard at the moment I imagine that a dog could do that even on grass.

We see this a lot at work because the dogs go out in concrete runs (and tend to hoon about chasing each other!) but it can happen on grass too, especially if the ground is hard or stony in places.

It usually sorts itself within a weel or so, just keep it clean and keep an eye out. If the damage extends to the digital pads I usually get mine some rimadyl to help see them through.
