People getting your horses name wrong?

My old lad was called Marragic but people would just guess how to pronounce it, he got called all sorts of things from Marriage or Mirage to Marajack.
It's derived from his original name which was too long, Marvelous Magic, his old owner took the Mar from Marvelous and the agic from Magic and it should be pronounced Mar-agic.

I really like that idea, although have just done it for my boy in my head, he is called ben nevis and it comes out as bevis! Now all I need to find is a butthead!

Had it with Pharaoh. People regularly pronounced (and spelt) it Faro, Faros Ferrow. Became used to introducing him as Pharaoh as in the egyptian kings!

My Pharaoh can be spelt either way (his freezemark is FARO!) so I don't mind that! Haven't had the other mis-spellings and mis-pronunications that Swift08 has had BUT, I did find it quite amusing once when I'd booked Pharaoh's annual jabs over the phone and gave his name. Vet arrived for the appointment and said "which one's Sarah then?"

my new youngster is called Gella Van De Brouwershoeve!! Last time out we were called 'Gella Van De oh that will do' lol very funny listening to the judges trying to pronounce it, its her breeding name and i wasnt going to pay the extra £95ish on top of registration fees to change it when i registered her BS!

@jemina
It's more when it's written down haha. Everytime someone says I've spelt it wrong. Its a weird name though so I'm used to it. Its a different name from Kayleigh but not as well known.

Good job I don't get miffed when people get my name wrong :D

Mine's called Handy. We've had Andy, and Mandy... he's a boy!! Luckily we've not been out anywhere and his name is above his stable.

My old mare was called Dlani Dudette...I had so many different pronounciations. Unfortunately I don't even know how the first part should be said. Dee-lay-knee or Dur-lar-knee or D-lani. Also as I have an unusual name the tannoy used get us the wrong way round...so apparently my horse was riding me :D.

I have a French bred (American) Appaloosa - Peyres Sully Cortez R - I never did find out what the 'R' was for - but the Peyres bit - can't pronounce that at all, I think it should be Pears but I always say Perez as it goes with Cortez.
There are a couple of other Peyres prefixed Appaloosas in the UK and I know they pronounce it different to me!
To add to the confusion I call him Roux (as it looked like he had white sauce poured over him as a foal), and it began with 'R'. I bred a colt with him, the dam sire was called Buckaroo, so I called the youngster Buckaroux. Buckie for short. But this has caused so much confusion with the vet bills! The vets are so confused, one said whilst looking at his passport - how do I get 'Roux' from Peyres Sully Cortez R. I have to carefully explain! Recently I had a big bill for my boy and they had allocated one visit to Buckaroux - when the vets had not been anywhere near him! So I had to ring and explain that Buckaroux was 'son of Roux' ..... Oh I give up! ;) Well done if you got this far.........!

I used to have a welsh cob called Abbott, now as a nickname he got called fatty Abb's, which some people thought he was called Abi.

Hes a boy

I have enough problems with Upperlochton Fergus. Really, it's not hard, but somehow people just don't seem to get it. Maybe I mumble? Anyway, got fed up with the "what?"s and the UpperloCKtons so I started using "Sound&Fury" for unaffiliated stuff. I thought that it was two very simple words from a very famous quotation, that can't be too hard, can it?

Yes

Yearling's called Morrich Darach so you can imagine the fun I'm going to have down here with that. Why don't the English understand "ch, as in loch"?

Thank god the old lad's Jasper, plain and simple.

No, NOT Casper, I said Jasper  Damn.

:D

Son used to ride a pony called Chesapeake ***** (don't want to put his full name here as I don't own him) - it got mispronounced regularly at shows the best (or worst!) being Cheesepiece ***** and Cheapskate *****. Poor boy!

My old lad is called Carlow (he's from County Carlow in Ireland) and gets called Carlos all the time! Carlo I can understand as that's how it's pronounced, but how do they hear the extra 's'? And NFU had him insured for years as Carlon even though I told them several times.

New boy is Archi, no 'e' at the end, as it's just a shortened version of his racing name, Archirondel. There is an Archie on the yard and I have to keep saying mine's 'Archie without an e'! and no, it's not short for Archibald!

We don't have problems with Thomas :D

Our home bred foal is Piccos Regalo Pasqua. Had to squish a rough Italian meaning of 'Easter Gift' (born on Easter Sunday) with our prefix (Piccos) into 21 characters. Gets mis-pronounced a lot lol.

My broodmare is Ellie to us, but her passported name is 'xyz abc Elhee', and people pronounce the H more often than not, but we just use Ellie

I used to jump a horse called myfanwy - you really really wouldnt beleive how it could be pronounced over a loud speaker at shows - surely they realized a kid's jumping pony wouldnt be called my fa**y !!

OP I think I should compete your horse would judges would definitely get confused then as I'm called Kayleigh :D almost never get called it though, people always call me kylie, or Hayley. And 99% or those that do call me the right name mispronounce it, they say it Kay-Lee instead of pronouncing it like Hayley with a K!!

Our old pony was called Beau (bow) and he would get called Beer or Bean or Bew (think ewwww!)

And Archie, you would think it would be simple but people always call him Arty which I hate!

my mare is called Goffs and it doesn't suit her at all. I call her, Goff or Goffy , but a lot of people call her Goth (she's bright bay!), and the kids at the yard even called her Goofy! that got me fuming

My boy's stable name is after his sire - milieu. Almost no-one calls him by it and the vet has spelled and pronounced it many different ways! He gets 'milo' a lot but most people go with 'big man' :D

My saddler made me laugh last week when he came to check my boys' saddles. One of them is called Alfie and he suddenly said, 'have you had any problems with Poppy?' :D :p

Hahah I've also been called Kaylee and Kalyeigh has been called Emily(my name).
Her show name is even weirder: Acryse Class Act. The judges just say class act haha

Mine is called Wladimir pronounced Vladimir. This causes confusion at shows with some choosing not to try and say it at all. My surname is Mackinnon which also causes confusion at comps!!! However one lady at one show, when told his name was Wladimir with a W and he was dutch correctly estimated that he was approx 7 to 8 years old. I asked how she knew and she said that the dutch studs often use a letter of the alphabet for all horses born that year so the next year all horses born would start with X etc etc. Very interseting as I never knew that.

Not a horse but a dog - one of my dogs is called Tarn, and I've lost count of the number of people who repeat it back to me as Khan! Love it when we're in the Lake District as it's a common word there :D
