People getting your horses name wrong?

Better yet, I have a friend who was having regular riding lessons with a young BHSAI who she was rather fond of. For some reason, in the first lesson, he got confused and started calling her by a totally different name - easily done, I'm sure - but rather than correct him, she allowed him to call her that for months, ultimately setting up a facebook account under the new name to add him on! Now that's an odd one.

I'm mentioning NO names :D
 
My boy is called Hurley. A pretty easy name hey?! Well, he gets called, Harley, Harvey, Hurvey, Hurl (makes me cringe!)....I generally introduce him as 'Hurley, but we call him H' So he is now H! :p
 
i've never had any problem with mine Pip - generally an easy name to pronounce and sunday best is 'OakTree Pippi Longstockings' again nothing too hard there. Cody (co-dee) generally an easy name but some call him coddie (cod-dee) like the fish!! luckily his sunday best is 'Oaktree Super Nova' shouldnt be too hard for some of the incompetant tannoy announcers we all seem to meet!!

mums horse is called maii (the welsh spelling of may, said may) but we quite often get 'my' 'me' 'mia' - as if we've spelt it wrong! she doesn't have a 'proper name' so depending on how shes behaving just for fun we change her name on entry forms we've used 'maii-bee baybee' 'Deffinatly Maii-bee' and 'Maii-bee she will, Maii-bee She Won't' - this one tends to be reserved for jumping :L just our little bit of fun!!
 
I've got a horse called Pippa, who people always call Pippin. Her competition name is Orange Pippin (like the apple), and I have a memorable XC round videoed where you can hear the commentator calling her Orange Pickle all the way round!

I also have a yearling callee Celeste, which most people get, however her posh name is Hao Spirited (pronounced How Spirited). People can manage the Spirited part, but generally it gets pronounced Hayo Spirited!

And finally one of my horse's posh name is Pertemps Style. The number of times she gets called Pertomps Style!!!!!
 
I have an "Hormiga" (Spanish for Ant) which is pronounced "or-me-ga" and she always gets called Omega (like the watches)!!

My old Arab was just as bad, he was called Hereke (a cretian town) which is pronounced "heh-re-key" and he got called all sorts!
 
My big lad, Jeff, is called Jefertiti. Now every single racecourse he has been to bar one has pronounced it properly - Jeferteetee. The odd ball is Uttoxeter where is became the standing joke that JeferTITi was running. Well they do need amuse themselves these commentators do!

Here's one for you! Try saying - Beidh Tine Anseo! Luckily we call him Rocky after his father! If your very nice I might let you know how to say it! Gives the commentators merry hell :D
 
Not as in pronouncing it wrong.. but some of the young helpers/volunteers at the yard where I keep mine(it's a riding school/livery yard) always call my horse the name of a school horse. The only similarity between the 2 is that they're vaguely the same height and both dapple grey (though Jack the school horse is darker) and it may sound petty but it's a little annoying! Never happens when he's in his stable which has a name plate on it, but when he's tied up on the yard when I'm grooming it happens all the time. Slightly worried one day one of them will throw Jack's tack on my horse and take him in for a lesson :eek: Wouldn't ever happen, I'm sure, but it's rolled through my mind :rolleyes: The weird thing is, they're tied on opposite ends of the yard? :confused: xx
 
Harry is Guadalcazar - it means guardian of the hunt in Spanish I believe. People can't spell it let alone say it. We've had all sorts of variations over the years, the best being 'Gowdal Caizer' (and it was spelt like that on the rosette we got too).

I do feel sorry for whoever cops for presenting the end of year EGB awards. We have a lot of arabs and a lot of welsh that compete so you can imagine what a car crash that is to read out :)
 
Nobody had a problem with Dobbin's name but always assumed she was a gelding!

There is an old lady in the village who calls my dog Ethel, he's actually Cecil!
 
Our mare is called Welina. It is German so pronounced Velina. We get it announced at shows started with W. Someone who used to be at our yard called her Wilamena!
 
I have a Spanish boy whose name is Jalisco. Wherever I go his name is always read out using the J (Jal) whereas it should really be pronounced as Halisco but as no one really knows he's Spanish beforehand, I guess his name will always be pronounced that way.

Incidentally my surname is Benbow, I've been call Binbon, Benbon, Beebon, Bingbong etc etc!
 
If someone got Andy wrong I'd be a bit worried. :)

However they do have a chuckle when I come out with the phrase "going to ride Andy tonight." The worst is the fact in our friendship group we have a friend called Andy. :p
 
My boy is always getting mispronounced. His stable name is Jos, pronounced Yos because he is Dutch. Hardly anyone gets it right unless they hear me say it a few times first! Normally people pronounce the J, so it is like Joss Stone, which I can cope with, but when you get things like Yorse, Yoes, Joes, I do despair!!

His reg. name is worse - Mulle, pronounced Mooluh. I now say it's 'Mulle, like the rice' and most people get it. Going to change his name to Bob :)
 
ha - mine is irish and came with her name - Aoife - it is pronounced ee-fa, but people can call her allsorts - eefy, eef, OOfa !! lol
 
Years ago someone local had called their horse 3D which came over the tannoys at the shows sounding like VD!

My horse's name is Miz, short for Miseria (yes, for those of you who speak spanish, it means misery!), and people often think it's Miss and call him 'she' - well he is pretty!
 
My name's Keely and my share horse's name is Kelly.
I have a jacket with Keely & Kelly on the back, people regularly get us mixed up, even my family and Kelly's owner at times!!!
