My yard is a bit posh (although us DIY plebs don't get acknowledged much by the full-livery brigade, but that's another story).
Anyway, there is a little clique of full-livery clients who don't work - they all lunch and hang out together, bless.
So what I want to know, is why they still insist on competing for indoor / outdoor school time in the evening with all us cattle-class wage slaves?
Apart from being inconsiderate (but far be it for me to dictate when someone should ride), wouldn't it be so much nicer to have the school during the day, for as long as you need it, with no pressure from anyone else 'I've booked the school for 7.00, it is 7.01 so you have to leave now' etc etc?
I'm sure there are people who don't actually draw a wage but fill their day with equally important activities, like raising children etc, and can actually only fit riding in in the evening, which is fair enough.
But this ladies lunching crowd filling up the school from 6 - 8 in the evenings is really starting to get to me.
Sorry, rant over... and breathe....

:D:D:D I feel your pain !!! Not much help sorry, but I used to ride at a yard like this.. they also did dog agility in the indoor school several evenings a week.

It could be that the ladies that lunch other stuff to do in the day and like to hang out with the regulars in the evening. I feel your pain though cos I was on a yard like this but I can't complain cos I was one of them for a few years.

Oh don't get me started on dog agility! They do that in the winter here. Not only does it mean we can't get in the indoor, but the number of times my lad has nearly gone into orbit when someone's collie has leapt out of a dark corner...

hmmmm it does seem a little crazy doesn't it!

It's a bit like the kids who finish school at 3pm and wait til 6pm to jump in the school... I apreciate that some rely on parents to bring them to the yard but when I was that age (13 upwards) I'd leg it out of school as fast as possible and walk the 2 miles home and get out and do my neighbours horses as a matter of priority... most of these kids live a 5 minute bike ride from the yard... but then most of them also have mummies who muck out for them.... sorry... rant over.

If I could hang out at the yard during day time I really would not voluntarily be riding when it is busy at night. Reminds me of driving this bank holiday weekend, the service station was packed with bus loads of old people, when retire and have my pick of when to go I sure won't be traveling on a bank holiday either :-)

This is my biggest pet hate but its with the kids that get to the yard for 4 and dont ride until 7 when all the workies get up! They book the paddock and then make sure they have another one in the turnout so it doesnt set the kiddies ponies off and as we only have acess to one winter field which 2 can use everything is in high demand until summer turnout comes!

Surely these people are entitled to book the school at ANY time of the day including evenings same as you???
If they book it, it's up to them what time surely? Cant you book the school for the time you want?

I am some one that works full time, and I dont have a problem with what time other people ride? And I'd be careful what you say because some people dont have it as easy as it looks like they have it

Totally agree with this ^^ I'm on exam leave from uni atm, and am loving being able to have the arena to myself/one other person to do flatwork, and not have to dodge 7 children bombing over jumps on tiny ponies! Although most people at our yard are like that, those of us who aren't at work/school/uni in the morning ride then to avoid the mad rush in the evening, especially on pony club nights!

I am a stay at home Mum but go up to the yard to ride in the evening when my OH gets home to look after the children.

I would be quite hurt :( if I thought people didn't think I should be there because in their eyes I am doing nothing all day.

I'd love to ride in the day but at 3 years old, I can't leave little one to muck out whilst I do so. She's helpful but I just wouldn't have any bed left .
Maybe I could take my dog crate and put her in that in the corner of the school :p:rolleyes::eek::D.

Similar to a yard I used to be on....certain people didn't work ( courtesy of the glorious benefits system) and would hang around all day doing sweet diddly squat.....then at tea time when the workers arrived they would be hogging the tap filling up humungous buckets.

Ermm.....couldn't you have done that earlier in the day? or would that have interfered with your noseying around everyone elses feedrooms? Grrrr:mad:

.

I think OP means...that these ladies are on the yard all day socialising etc....so why not ride then instead of hogging the arena later in the day, when oters don't have a choice of when they can ride.

Excellent idea re the dog crate though....wish I'd have thought of that when the kids were little:D:D

does it matter how people fill their days so long as it is legal? I don't work, those at my yard don't know why as it isn't any of their business so I haven't told them, (generally it is assumed that I am a posh b*tch!!) and I ride in the evenings, sometimes (shock!) in the school when there is someone around as I don't feel confident enough to ride when there isn't anyone around in the day.
(fwiw, I don't work as I have struggled to get myself together after the death of my husband - don't make assumptions about people, generally you couldn't guess what people have going on away from the yard. I'm not yet 30 and moved after the loss of my husband so no one at my yard knows my past and I'm happy with this, but I really don't think I should be thought of badly because of when I ride!)

I didn't have horses when my kids were little; ( I had three under 5)
BUT I did used to love my step classes, swimming etc etc and only did them during the day; I was far too tired to do anything in the evening!
We all used to look after each others kids now and then so mums could have some time to themselves.

Now I have horses, and I don't work anymore ( I'm old :D) certainly don't do nothing all day long, and certainly don't live on benefits! I just ride all day long........*very big grin*

((((hugs to you glosgirl for your loss))))

Gosh I have to say I am so lucky to be on my own!!! No longer have to put up with any of this sort of thing............... Hoo-flipping-ray!!!!!! :D:D

Sorry, didn't mean to sound smug.... :p;)

To all of those who are getting a bit hot under the collar, yes this post is tongue in cheek. I also made it clear that full time parents / others who don't necessarily draw a wage but fill their days with useful activity nonetheless are not included in the overall rant.
What I do find perplexing and amusing though, is why anyone who has the amount of spare time on their hands as these ladies do (and their horses are all full-livery) would want to ride when the yard is at its busiest.
Regarding socialising with the rest of the yard: well, they socialise with each other...

Presumably you have to book time in the arena? So just make sure you get your bookings in before they do.

Unfortunately you have to pay if you book it, it is free if you don't. And they can afford to book it every night :(
One of them has booked the indoor from 6 - 7 three times a week for the rest of the year.

Stop moaning about the kids!

I had a pony when i was at school and finished at 3:15 had a 45 minute walk to the stables then got changed walked up to get my pony in flicked a brush over him tacked him up then by this time it was 5-5:30 so i would have to book the school for the same time as the people that worked so yes i did finish before them but they work a ten minute drive from the yard i was a 45 minute walk away so i couldnt get there any earlier.

Then when i started working i could sometimes get there earlier as i would finish early and worked tuesday-saturday so i had all day sunday and monday to ride so i would make a point of not riding when everyone else wanted use of the school.

now i dont work im a stay at home mum i hardly ever ride because i have got a 2 year old and cant watch him while im riding and not sure the yard cat would be a very good baby sitter!

Even if i did stay at home without a 2 year old to look after and people thought i didnt do anything and i wanted to ride at 5:30-6:30 I would because thats up to me!

it does all get a bit sticky under the collar atm in a few threads - sommit in the air ???

lol, def the spring grass working its magic on everyone!

would be annoyed at the lady who booked the school 3 times a week for the rest of the year. Doesn't seem v fair really. Though I guess if she is prepared to pay, then it is tricky to make it fair for everyone.
