The vet came out today to microchip Caso and take tail hair samples from both him and Hermosa. That all went fine. I wasn't sure how reactive she would be to the vet pulling hair, given that she can be overdramatic with some things and care less about others. Luckily this was very much in the 'care less' category. BAPSH has told me that once I send them the DNA samples from foal and dam, they will track down the alleged baby daddys and try to figure out who got lucky last summer.

Tonight, I have been trying to register the microchip on Identibase, typing the microchip number and vet code into the online form. It keeps telling me that the information isn't valid. Do I need to give it a day or two, or do I need to call the vet and ask why it isn't working?

Often the breed societies register the chip.
I have 2 x breeds and each society registered the chip for them.
One of my mini shetlands (sadly pts last year) only had the chip registered by the SPSBS when she changed hands to come to me.
Worth checking tomorrow with BAPSH tomorrow if they do this?
I take it that the vet swung over it to check it was working/ to activate it after insertion?
Or, has the vet got to register the chip on the new database 1st?

Vet told me they would register it and then I sent all the bumpf off to the PIO with the silhouette etc. I didn't attempt to do anything myself with it.

So I'd check with vet and bapsh first :)

I called the registrar at BAPSH, just to make sure I had all my paperwork in order before sending it off, seeing as it's not a straightforward process in my case. Normally in PRE-land, you would have a covering certificate from the stud, who would have registered the sire as a breeding stallion, but lol. I left her a voicemail. Hopefully she will get back to me tomorrow, and I will ask her about the microchip registration as well.

Please everyone make sure that your Vet did not just register the microchip with a commercial database but that it is done via the PIO and updated on the CED Defra Database as well . . . if in doubt check Microchip Number through Equine Register
