Hi guys, I'm just wondering what the perfect trot stretch should look like in dressage tests (I'm doing Intro B next weekend). My mare will stretch all the way to the ground consistently in walk and trot if I ask her to (and stays active & in the contact), but whenever I've seen it done in tests before it's only a little stretch. Should I just let her half way down so to speak or let her hoover the ground with her nose? :D lol

I judge loads of these tests and last Sunday I must have had 30 people in intro b and not one managed to achieve a stretch of any description, so anything you can show especially if it's consistent, clearly stretching out and down and maintaining the trot rhythm will likely look terrific compared to others the judge will be seeing x good luck x

Great, she loves her stretching. Would you reward a horse that is stretching so much as in the pictures though? Because I see a lot of people criticising stretching like this saying it puts them on the forehand too much, which it does if not ridden properly, but generally she's very light, in a contact and active. You can see in the first picture by her footfalls, she's definitely not on the forehand (2nd picture isn't as good, footfalls probably even in that one). I was watching some young horse tests with top riders and they didn't stretch hugely in the trot stretches so I'm a bit wary of what it should look like in tests haha.
